Golf Courses Near Greenwich, CT
Greenwich, located 33 miles from Midtown Manhattan at the southwestern boundary of Connecticut, is the largest town on the state’s Gold Coast. Since a couple of Greenwich zip codes boast some of the most expensive real estate in the U.S., it should not be surprising that no fewer than eight country clubs with golf courses list a Greenwich address. When you’re looking to make a tee time, Greenwich does have a muni, Griffith E. Harris Golf Course (“The Griff”), a parkland-style Robert Trent Jones, Sr. course with generous fairways but very tough approach shots into large, undulating greens. Various affluent communities nearby, both in Connecticut and across the state line in New York State, also feature vintage classic public courses. Stamford boasts two munis: E. Gaynor Brennan Golf Course, which has benefited from a recent renovation work; and the higher rated and more popular Sterling Farms Golf Course, one of the state’s premier public courses. Harrison Meadows Country Club in Harrison, NY may offer Hot Deals on its picturesque and updated layout that first opened in 1917. In White Plains, Maple Moor Golf Course, a 1927-vintage layout that was Westchester Country’s first public course, also recently completed a renovation project. Keep an eye out for Hot Deals at Saxon Woods in Scarsdale, NY, another recently upgraded layout that spreads out on wooded rolling terrain.
Greenwich is noted for its lavish mansions, beautiful scenery, and beaches on Long Island Sound. The stunning beach at Greenwich Point Park extends onto a peninsula and offers views of the Manhattan skyline. Catching a ferry to one of the islands in the Sound is also a popular activity. Parts of Greenwich are new and bustling with nightlife, while others are quaint and quiet. Greenwich Avenue—”The Avenue”—features gorgeous architecture and an array of upscale shops, design stores, and ritzy bakeries. The Bruce Museum showcases art, science, and natural history and features an impressive collection of Impressionist paintings. Greenwich’s artsy side shines every June at the Greenwich International Film Festival. On Sunday afternoons in summer the Greenwich Polo Club always draws a crowd in this monied town that is home to many hedge fund managers.
