Local golfers have discovered the secret about Miami Springs Golf & Country Club--this hidden gem golf course in the Miami Springs community is full of charm, tradition, and historical significance. The playing field, which was called Miami-Hialeah Golf Club when it opened in 1923, is a treasure for connoisseurs of golf course architecture because it was designed by William Langford and Theodore Moreau, a renowned design duo from Chicago. When you have a tee time to play Miami Springs Golf & Country Club you truly walk in the footsteps of legendary golfers. The course hosted the Miami Open from 1925 to 1955 and produced an illustrious list of winners including Gene Sarazen, Tommy Armour, Sam Snead, and Byron Nelson. Arnold Palmer made his professional tournament debut here and numerous celebrities and dignitaries frequented the club. The City of Miami Springs website also says that Miami Springs Golf & Country Club was the first golf course in Florida to admit black players. Nowadays, it is a highly playable test that golfers of all skill levels can enjoy. Four sets of tee markers extend the par-71 layout from 5,373 yards to 6,755 yards. While there s not a lot of trouble on this predominantly open course, numerous doglegs give players opportunities for creative shotmaking. Adding to the challenge, there s some movement in the fairways and most of the greens are elevated and guarded by at least one bunker. A creek that cuts across four fairways on the back nine is the only water in play. The four par 3s are considered the strength of the layout and may be the toughest of any public course in Miami. Miami Springs Golf & Country Club's greens come in all shapes and sizes, but they are not overly undulating. Practice facilities include a driving range with grass tees, chipping green, practice bunker, and putting green. The clubhouse is home to the pro shop and a restaurant that is open for lunch and dinner. Don t miss out on a tee time at Miami Springs Golf & Country Club it s a historic course that's fun for experienced and novice golfers alike.
