Of all the courses in the greater Palm Springs golf mecca, the PGA WEST Pete Dye Stadium Course in La Quinta is the most famous. This Pete Dye classic headlines a roster of five PGA WEST courses that public golfers can play. The PGA WEST Pete Dye Stadium Course has long been the featured course of the PGA Tour s American Express, a tournament that came to prominence decades ago as the Bob Hope Desert Classic. At PGA WEST, The Western Home of Golf in America you truly step into golf history and walk in the footsteps of the game s great players when you play the PGA WEST Pete Dye Stadium Course. The layout, a cousin to Dye s TPC Sawgrass THE PLAYERS Stadium Course, is one of the world s most challenging courses and arguably the most Dye-abolical course Pete Dye ever designed. Dye himself said Love and hate can be found here. While this top-100-caliber layout isn t for beginners or the faint of heart, many golf course trophy hunters seek it out precisely because it is so famously difficult. The 5th, 6th, and 7th holes comprise a great stretch of golf. The 5th hole, called Double Trouble, requires both a drive and a second shot over lakes. The 6th, a long par 3, is virtually all carry over water, while the 7th plays back over the same lake. On the back nine, the challenge turns even more dramatic. You re not likely to forget the final three holes. The 16th hole, called San Andreas Fault, features one of the world s iconic bunkers the greenside sand is a whopping 19-feet deep. Alcatraz, as the par-3 17th is called, sports an island green set amidst a moonscape of rocks and boulders. The round concludes with a relentlessly challenging par 4 that begins with an intimidating tee shot over water. The water hugs the left side of the fairway all the way to a green that has no bailout area. After your round, you can savor the new notch on your belt in the showplace clubhouse the most grand and elaborate at PGA WEST. Ernie s Bar & Grill in the clubhouse is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A day at the PGA WEST-Pete Dye Stadium Course is an experience every golf course connoisseur and player who enjoys putting their game to the test should try at least once.
