Now, let’s find out the answer to our British Open trivia question from yesterday’s show, which was:

Which three-time champion tore up his scorecard and walked off the course in his first appearance at The British Open? Was it:

Based on the first appearance that Bobby Jones made at the British Open, you wouldn’t have guessed that he would become one of the most beloved players in the history of this major, and of the town of St. Andrews, as well. Jones was just 19 when he played the Old Course for the first time during the Open of 1921 and wasn’t fond of the course. He played fairly well in the first two rounds but, during the third round, he became so disgusted with his performance after shooting a 46 on the first nine holes that, once he couldn’t get out of the Hill Bunker on the eleventh hole, he grabbed his ball, tore up his scorecard and withdrew. The reaction from the fans and the press was blistering and forced Jones to learn to control his emotions. He then returned to the British Open in 1926 for the first of two consecutive victories and made his mark in 1930 when he won both the British Amateur and British Opens before going on to become the first man to win the Grand Slam. Almost 30 years later, in 1958, he became only the second American after Benjamin Franklin to be presented with the honor of becoming a Freeman of the city of St. Andrews.**

So, if you answered A - then you were right and you’ve added one more entry into our computer for our daily drawings where you can win great golf prizes and today we’re giving away our last British Open prize package which includes a reproduction of a Currier & Ives artwork of Bobby Jones winning the British Open that was published in Fortune Magazine in 1930. Okay, computer, show me today’s winner:

And our winner today is Skip Harris of Tempe, Arizona. Congratulations, Skip, you’ve just won a great selection of British Open merchandise and, in order to claim this prize, all you have to do is send me an e-mail to me at Keri@golfnow.com within the next 30 days.

Okay, that wraps our British Open theme week here on GolfNow’s trivia contest. Thanks so much to everyone who played this week and congratulatoins to all of our winners plus a big thanks to girls golf for my wardrobe. There are just four more days until the premiere of Highway 18 on The Golf Channel and I can’t wait for you to see it so, I hope you can tune in this Tuesday at 10pm eastern time and check it out. I’m Keri Murphy, have a great weekend everyone and I’ll see you back again next week for more fun golf trivia and great golf prizes here on GolfNow.com – the #1 tee time website in the nation!

Hi, everyone, Keri Murphy here with another edition of GolfNow’s trivia contest at the halfway point of our British Open theme week and our featured course for today is Little Bennett Golf Course in Clarksburg, Maryland which is just one of more than 1,000 courses in over 20 states that make up our GolfNow network.

Left-handed golfers are certainly more common these days than they were in the past and a few of them have even won in a major tournament, and that leads us to today’s trivia question, which is:

B. Mike Weir
C.Phil Mickelson

D. Nick O’Hearn

Just go to the entry form at GolfNow.com to submit your answer and tomorrow, we’ll tell you which lefty won the British Open and, if your answer was correct, then you will add one more entry into our computer for our daily drawings. Okay, let’s find out the answer to our question from yesterday’s show, which was:

Who was the first golfer to break 70 in each round of The British Open?

The first time that anyone broke 70 during the British Open was in 1904 at Royal St. George’s when not just one, but three golfers shot in the 60’s – including that year’s champion, Scottish professional Jack White, who shot a 69 in the final round for his lowest score of the tournament, along with J.H. Taylor who shot a 68 in the final round and James Braid, who was technically the first golfer to break 70 when he shot a 69 in the third round. Then, almost 90 years later at the 1993 Open - which was once again held at Royal St. George’s - Greg Norman won his second Claret Jug with scores of 66-68-69 and 64. BUT … it was actually Ernie Els, who played before Norman in the final round that year, who has the distinction of being the first player to shoot below 70 in all four rounds with scores of 68, 69, 69 and 68.

So, if you answered C – then you were right, which means that you now have one more entry into our computer for our daily drawings and our prize today is another British Open prize package which also includes the book, Golf, As It Was In The Beginning – the Legendary British Open courses.
And our winner today is James Lee of Riverside, California.
Why wait for the weekend to play golf? With the long days of summer in full swing – no pun intended – why not to get in a round or two during the middle of the week and, to make it even better, you can save when you book your tee times online with us at GolfNow.com!! I’m Keri Murphy and I’ll see you again tomorrow here on GolfNow’s Trivia Contest.

One was his wife, and the other was serial streaker Mark Roberts, wearing only – well you can see for yourself. The first time we can find that the Open was streaked was in 1985 when a man ran onto the 18th green and got punched by golfer Peter Jacobsen. Then, when Tiger Woods made his first professional appearance at the 1997 British Open, Nikki Moffat ran out wearing only a G-string with tiger stripes painted all over her body. And in 2000, again at St. Andrews, three female and two male streakers made an appearance, including stripper Jacqui Salmond who ran out and danced around – appropriately enough - the flag pole on the 18th green just after Tiger teed off on the 18th hole before going on to win his very first British Open.

Hi everyone, it’s Monday July 14th – I’m Keri Murphy and it’s day one of our British Open theme week on GolfNow’s Trivia Contest.

Hey there, Keri Murphy here with our third theme week of this year to celebrate the British Open here on GolfNow’s trivia contest. Our featured GolfNow network course for this week is the Makalei Country Club on the big island of Hawaii – which is just one of more than 1,000 courses in over 20 states across the where you can save when you book your tee times online with us here at GolfNow.com

Okay, let’s get right to our first British Open trivia question for the week which has to do with a phenomenon that is almost exclusive to the British Open for some reason and so – our question for today is:

Which golfer watched as a streaker ran by him on the 18th green after winning a playoff for his first victory at The British Open? Was it:

A. Paul Lawrie
B. Mark O’Meara
C. John Daly or
D. Ernie Els

Just mark your answer on the entry form at GolfNow and tomorrow we’ll tell you who got … streaked – is that the right term? - and, if you were right, then you’ll add one more entry into our computer for our daily drawings.

Okay, now let’s find out the answer to our question from our show last Friday, which was:

What brand of beer did Rodney Dangerfield have on tap in his golf bag in the movie “Caddyshack”?

Well, it’s no coincidence that we asked a Caddyshack question because there just happens to be a special screening of Caddyshack tomorrow night at 8pm Eastern Time on the Golf Channel and I just happen to be hosting it! So, what we’re going to do is give everyone who answered the question a free entry into our computer and invite you to watch the movie to find out the answer. It’s a win-win situation for everyone! Plus, during the film, I’ll be along to tell you more about Highway 18- the new show I’m hosting for The Golf Channel which premieres next Tuesday at 10pm Eastern Time.

So, since everyone gets a free entry for last Friday’s question – then you were ALL right and you’ve all added another new entry into our computer for our daily drawings and since this is the first day of our British Open theme week, our prize today is a British Open prize package which includes items direct from the official British Open shop in Scotland.
