It’s Tuesday, September 2nd, and there’s a new episode of Highway 18 tonight so we’re giving away a Golf Channel prize package - today on GolfNow’s trivia contest.
Hi everyone and welcome back to GolfNow’s trivia contest. I’m Keri Murphy, the host of highway 18 on the Golf Channel, and our featured GolfNow course for today is the Trilogy Golf Club at Glen Ivy in southern California – one more course where you can find great tee times deals when you book online with us at GolfNow.com – just like you can at more than 1,000 courses in over 20 states that make up our GolfNow network!
Byron Nelson had an amazing year in 1945 when he won a record 18 tournaments, including 11 in a row. But, one golfer was able to stop that streak and that leads us to our trivia question for today, which is:
Which golfer broke Byron Nelson’s streak of 11 consecutive victories? Was it:
A. Fred Haas, Jr.
B. Harold “Jug” McSpaden
C. Jimmy Demaret or
D. Bobby Locke
As always, mark your answer on the entry form at GolfNow.com, and on tomorrow’s show, we’ll tell you who ended Nelson’s streak and you can find out if your answer was correct. Okay, now, let’s find out the answer to our question from yesterday’s show, which was:
Who is the only golfer to win all 18 skins and the entire one million dollar purse at the LG Skins Game?
Colin Montgomerie, Greg Norman, Jesper Parnevik and Tiger Woods were the four players who went up against each other at the 2001 Skins Game in Indio, California and a new rule change that year meant that a player who won a hole outright had to validate the hole with a tie or a win on the next hole to collect his skins from the previous hole. All four players battled it out with no skins being awarded through the first 16 holes. Then, on the 17th hole, Norman made a 10-foot birdie putt and validated his skin on 18 with a three-foot par putt to win all 17 previous skins and $800,000. But, because the 18th hole was halved, playoff holes were added and on the second playoff hole, Norman made a four-foot birdie putt to validate 18 and won the final skin worth 200 thousand dollars and walked away with every skin AND every penny of the one million dollars in prize money. That rule was rescinded the next year.
So, if you answered B – then you were right, which means that you now have one more entry into our computer for our daily drawings and because it’s Highway 18 Tuesday, our prize today is a Golf Channel prize package. Okay, computer, show me today’s winner:
And our winner today is Lance Provost of Hillsborough, North Carolina. Congratulations, Lance, and now, to claim this set of prizes from the Golf Channel, just send an e-mail to me at keri@golfnow.com within the next 30 days and we will send your prize out to you.
On tonight’s all new episode of Highway 18, the teams compete for a set of antique clubs and then race to Florida’s first golf club for an old school short game challenge. Then, from there, they head to Sara Bay Country Club, site of the famous match-play “Battle of the Century” between Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen, where the top four teams to arrive battle it out in a match play event of their own. So, be sure to catch all the action tonight at 10pm Eastern Time only on The Golf Channel. Okay, that’s it for our show today. I’m Keri Murphy, have a great Tuesday and I’ll see you back here tomorrow on GolfNow’s Trivia Contest.
