The Royal Musselburgh Golf Club and the Royal Blackheath Golf Club are just two of the oldest golf clubs in the UK and were formed before golf found its way to other countries and, so, that leads us to today’s trivia question, which is:

Who was the first golfer from outside the United States to win the LPGA’s World Championship tournament? – D. Ayako Okamoto
The LPGA’s World Championship was founded in 1980 and featured the world’s top 12 LPGA players. The field increased to 16 players beginning the next year and then to the top 20 in 1999. Mexico’s Lorena Ochoa will be back this year as defending champion and the hopes to become the first golfer to win three consecutive times. Annika Sorenstam holds the record for the most overall victories at this tournament with five wins. The United States won in the first seven tournaments with Beth Daniel winning the first two and then JoAnne Carner winning the next two years, but it was Ayako Okamoto of Japan who was the first golfer from outside the U.S. to win in 1987.
