October 27, 2008

It’s Monday, October 27th – I’m Keri Murphy and you might be our first winner of the week - today on GolfNow’s trivia contest.

Hi, everyone, welcome back to a new week here on GolfNow’s Trivia Contest. Our featured GolfNow network course for today is Lost Canyons in Simi Valley, California– just one of more than 1,000 courses in over 20 states where you can save when you book online with us at www.golfnow.com – the #1 tee time website in the nation.

This year’s Eisenhower Cup took place a little over a week ago with Scotland winning for the very first time by nine strokes over the U.S. in this international amateur event and, so, with that in mind, our question for today is:

Which country did NOT have a team compete in the very first men’s World Amateur Team Championship? Was it:

A. Mexico

B. Iceland

C. Canada

D. Kenya

As always, just mark your answer on the entry form at GolfNow.com and tomorrow, we’ll tell you which country didn’t compete in the very first Eisenhower Cup and, if your answer was correct, then you’ll have one more entry in our computer with your name on it for our daily drawings.

Okay, now, let’s find out the answer to our question from last Friday’s show, which was:

The very first hole-in-one on a par-4 was made on what golf course?

A plaque near the 17th tee of the Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale commorates the very first ace on a par-4 on the PGA Tour, which occurred on January 25th of 2001. It was during the first round of The Phoenix Open that year when Andrew Magee made that magic shot, with a little help from Tom Byrum’s putter. Magee, who you’ve seen as host of several shows on the Golf Channel, lives near the course and had played it numerous times, but had never reached the green on 17 off the tee so, instead of waiting for the group ahead of him to finish, he decided to go ahead and tee off on the 332-yard hole. Well, this time, his drive did make it onto the green where Tom Byrum was lining up a birdie putt from inside 10 feet and Andrew’s ball hit Byrum’s putter and rolled right into the hole for a double-eagle ace – still the only par-4 ace in the history of the tour.

So, if you answered D – then you were right, which means that you now have one more entry into our computer for our daily drawings and, our prize today is a Bob Burns Roll-In putter plus a golf shirt and hat from Basic Golf. Okay, computer, show me today’s winner:

And our winner today is Walt Atkins of Graham, North Carolina and Walt, to claim this prize, just send an e-mail to me at keri@golfnow.com within the next 30 days.

Okay, that’s it for our first show of the week. Why not beat the crowds at the course coming up this weekend and get out on the course during the week? And, while you’re at it, why not save up to 70% by booking your tee time online with us here at www.golfnow.com. I’m Keri Murphy, have a great Monday everyone and I’ll see you again tomorrow here on GolfNow’s Trivia Contest.
