Who was the first golfer from outside the United States to win the LPGA’s World Championship tournament? Was it:
A. Annika Sorenstam
B. Se Ri Pak
C. Karrie Webb
D. Ayako Okamoto
Just mark your answer on the entry form at GolfNow.com and, tomorrow, we’ll tell you who it was and, if your answer was correct, then there will be one more entry in our computer with your name on it for our daily drawings.Okay, now let’s find out the answer to our question from yesterday’s show, which was:
Which tournament on the PGA Tour was the only one to ever use the Modified
Stableford scoring method?
The Stableford scoring system was invented by Dr. Frank Barney Gordon Stableford in the late 1800’s. It’s a little too complicated to explain here, but basically you earn points on every hole after you have adjusted the par based on your handicap and, unlike stroke play, you actually want to get a higher score on each hole- the more strokes you are under your adjusted par, the higher the points. Even though the system was modified for professional golfers, when it was announced in 1986 that the PGA Tour’s new tournament called THE INTERNATIONAL would use this method of scoring, many players didn’t understand it or like it. But, until THE INTERNATIONAL ended in 2006, it continued to use the modified Stableford system and is the only regular PGA Tour event to ever use it.
So, if you answered A – then you just added another entry into our computer for our daily drawings and our prize today is a PING Karsten series putter – a gold medal winner on this year’s Golf Digest Hot List. Okay, computer, show me today’s winner:
And our winner today is Dan Kerr of Scottsdale, AZ. Congratulations, Dan, and now, to claim this PING putter, all you have to do is to send an e-mail to me at Keri@golfnow.com within the next 30 days.
