Sorry, Keri, but Gary Player was far from the first non-American to win the U. S. Open. Horace Rawlins of England won the first U. S. Open in 1895. In fact an American didn’t win until 1911 when Johm McDermott finally put the Americans in the win column.
Player was the first non-British or American to win it.
