This should read - “His” thumb not “their”. One golfer is singlular. So many people make the mistake.

Vin — With Babe Z on the list of answers, the question needed to be gender-neutral, though it was awkwardly done. The better solution would have been to phrase it, “Which golfer once suffered a sprained thumb in a pillow fight just before a series of exhibition matches?”

Here is just another wording issue. Technically Jack won the Tournament Players Championship 3 times. The name was changed to The Players Championship (like you asked about) in 1988 and the only player on that list to win The Players Championship multiple times was Steve Elkington.

If you understood the question then its grammar is of little importance. There are bigger things to worry about besides understanding grammar.
