I answered todays question with Jack Lemmon but the only references I could find to that quote are “The reason it’s called golf is that all the other four-letter words were already taken.” (Dr. Vincent Manjoney) and more often “They call it golf because all of the other four-letter words were taken.” (Raymond Floyd)
I know these are not exact quotes of what you had posted but it is very confusing.
I couldn’t find any other golf quotes by the other three actors so I went by process of elimination.

I never thought I’d give up on a question but I can find nothing to credit any of the actors with this quote. However - many site Raymond Floyd.

Okay, it definitely looks like we have a discrepancy today. One of the actors on our list of answer choices is also credited with saying this quote on multiple sources on the internet, including the cover of a golf video he put out, which we’ll talk about tomorrow. The quote we used today was taken word for word from the cover of the video that was put out by the actor who is also credited with this quote. There are definitely slight variations in the wording out there but we went with the one that was actually in print on the box to give it some “official” source - or so we thought.

WOW! It’s amazing that soo many of my fellow golfers complained soo loudly that they can only find todays answer as Ray Floyd; It took me all of a minute to find the answer as stated; what actor ; I’de sure hate to see what you would complain about on the course!

OK, that’s really disappointing that I see your comments about everyone getting credit for a right answer regardless of what they’ve answered. After spending a large number of minutes on the web trying to find the correct answer - and finding it, you come out with that freebie? Reading the viewer comments about who actually coined that phrase - that was the easy part. I would hope that your research team had noted that before coming up with this elusive question about what actor also said it but I’m doubtful because of your comments lead me to the thought that you actually believed Leslie Nielson coined that phrase in his video and elsewhere. I’m shocked!!! And here I thought you all were perfect! LOL!!

The reason we want to give credit to everyone who answers today’s question is simply because there are conflicting sources attributing the quote to two people along with the fact that we can’t seem to find any source that indicates who might have said it first. So, in honor to be completely fair, this is one time where we think we should give a correct answer to everyone.

Your question asked who SAID that quote . . . Well if those guys played golf - they probably ALL said it at one point or another. A better phrasing would have been who is attributed to that quote , , , or who said it first.

Ray Floyd is attributed to saying “something like” today’s quote. However, there is a slight difference in the phrasing in today’s question that is NEVER attributed to Raymond Floyd.
So if everyone reads the quote in today’s trivia contest WORD FOR WORD they will NOT find anywhere on the Internet that Ray Floyd is quoted saying it. One of the actors did in fact say it in a movie… WORD FOR WORD.
Come on READ the quote and GolfNow you are wimping out!!!

What seems to be escaping all of my illiterate golf friends is the fact that the question asks “what ACTOR said the following” and outside of a couple of cameo appearances Raymond Floyd is not an actor, he would be considered an athlete/golfer. Please read the questions and answer them accurately to keep the trivia fair. It looks like Hooked on Phonics may need to make a comeback!

HEY PEOPLE! This is a Trivia Game!! The whole point of Trivia is to stump you!!! These same people complaining are the same people when hitting a ball in the woods behind a tree use a foot wedge to get out without taking a stroke. It clearly states”What Actor”. I think what should happen here is everyone should get a single point and the actual people that get it right should get 2 points.

Raymond Floyd and Leslie Nielsen are both credited for the quote. As far I know, however, Nielsen is the only “Actor”. I like that idea that the correct answer should get two points.

There is no right answer. Everyone knows it was Raymond Floyd’s quote and later rephrased by Leslie Nielsen. Not a good question if looking for original quotes. But, it’sd just a game and we are all having fun. Keep on golfing.
