Hi, I was checking back to see if Arnold Palmer, who shot his age at 66 still qualifies as the correct answer for who was the youngest pga golfer to shoot his age. thanks, DC

I might catch the devil from Keri and her boys for this posting, but I need assistance.
Next week, friends and I are working at the US Open at Torrey. On our off days, we would like to play one or two rounds in the SD area, of the Golfnow.com courses, what is suggested? Handicaps range from 8 to 17 (my wife). We are staying in the Pac Beach area.
Thanks in advance for suggestions.
If I have violated protocol, I apologize.

Sorry for the delay on this. While Arnold Palmer was one year younger than Snead when he shot his age, Palmer was on the Champions Tour, not the PGA Tour, which was what the question specified. With over 80% of the entries we received that day choosing Sam Snead - most likely based on much of the same research we found that specifically states that Snead was the youngest on the PGA Tour to accomplish that feat - and only 6% choosing Palmer, we feel that the results should stay as they are.

So, can anyone in the San Diego area help sonoranrat out with recommendations on courses to play - or not to play - in that area?

I’ve played two courses in the area, both in north county. Twin Oaks is challenging, but scenic and in great condition. I had a rough day. Encinitas Ranch was more playable for me, with nice views and a great layout and also with some challenging holes. Both a very nice golf courses that I would play again.

Balboa is close and nice. If you are feeling adventurous, drive south on Mexico 1 to Bajamar (about 35-40 minutes,) and play “Torrey Pines of Mexico.” With holes right above the Pacific shoreline, it is very nice to play and see, although I haven’t played since last year so I can’t guarantee the green conditions. La Costa Resort, just north of Torrey, is pricey but also very nice. You can’t go wrong with any of these! Good Golf, Good Times!

BTW, Balboa is on the east side of Balboa Park which has the San Diego Zoo and a few nice museums as well.

How about 18 at Boomers on Clairemont Mesa Blvd? They claim that “Lush greens, wild waterfalls and wacky windmills are just a few of the obstacles that stand between you and golfing immortality. Go for it brother.

Temecula Creek Inn is a good course, 3 nine hole courses… play stonehouse if you feel brave. SCGA is probably one of the best courses in my area for the money. Really fast greens. There are alot of fun courses in the San Diego area. If you want a view of downtown try the Balboa Park Municipal Course, and there is a cheap executive course close to where you will be staying called the Mission Bay Muni… there are many private and semi private courses as well that I am not too familiar with. Oh yea, Riverwalk is a fun track as well as challenging located in Fasion Valley next to the mall, across from the 8 freeway. Hope this is some help.

If you want to play at some fun courses that are reasonably priced try Castle Creek GC, Eagle Crest GC, Pala Mesa Resort, Riverwalk GC or The Vineyard at Escondido. All are in good shape and all are found at Golf Now. Temecula Creek Inn is also a very nice course and Stonehouse (9 holes) is tough.
