July 8, 2008

It’s Tuesday, July the 8th, I’m Keri Murphy we’re giving away a PING I-Series putter - today on GolfNow’s trivia contest.

Hi everyone and welcome back to GolfNow’s trivia contest. Our featured GolfNow course for today is Tilden Park in Berkeley, California, another course where you can save when you book your tee times online with us at GolfNow.com – just like you can at more than 1,000 courses in over 20 states that make up our GolfNow network of courses!

Okay, on past shows, we’ve talked about actors and singers who have played golf over the years, but I don’t think we’ve talked about gangsters yet and that leads us to our trivia question for today, which is:

Which famous gangster was once shot in both legs when a gun went off in his golf bag? Was it:

A. Charlie “Lucky” Luciano

B. Al Capone

C. Bugsy Siegel or

D. John Dillinger

As always, mark your answer on the entry form at GolfNow.com, and on tomorrow’s show, we’ll tell you who it was and you can find out if your answer was correct. Okay, now, let’s find out the answer to our question from yesterday’s show, which was:

What golfer would sometimes lie down on the fairway and pretend to go to sleep to protest slow players ahead of him?

Lee Trevino called him a genius and a legend, and Tiger Woods once said that only two golfers in history owned their golf swing: Ben Hogan - and Canadian golfer Moe Norman – who has been called the greatest ball striker in the history of the game. While he only played on the PGA Tour for two years, his career in Canada lasted for over 50 years and included 17 holes-in-one and nine double-eagles. He also won over 50 tournaments including seven CONSECUTIVE Canadian PGA senior championships and set more than 30 course records, including three scores of 59, with the last one coming at the age of 62. Along with all of that, he was an extremely fast player who would usually strike the ball in about three seconds and often didn’t even bother to stop and read putts. So, when he had to wait on slower players – which was pretty much all of them – he would occasionally lie down and pretend to take a nap.

So, if you answered C – then you were right, which means that you now have one more entry into our computer for our daily drawings and our prize today is another gold medal winning club on the 2008 Golf Digest Hot List - the PING I-Series putter. Okay, computer, show me today’s winner:

And our winner today is Bill Hansford of Largo, Florida. Congratulations, Bill, and now, to claim this great PING putter, just send an e-mail to me at keri@golfnow.com within the next 30 days and we will send your prize out to you.

Okay, that is it for our show today. There are just two more weeks until the premiere of The Golf Channel’s brand new show Highway 18 – which I just happen to be the host of – and you can find out more about the show by clicking on the Highway 18 logo right here on our home page. I’m Keri Murphy, have a great Tuesday and I’ll see you again tomorrow right here on GolfNow’s Trivia Contest.
