July 4, 2008

It’s Friday, the 4th of July and you might win a personalized wedge from Upswing Golf today on GolfNow’s trivia contest.

Hi, everyone, Keri Murphy here with you on this Independence Day holiday and our featured GolfNow course for today is Trilogy Golf Club at La Quinta outside of Palm Springs, California - and just like all the courses in our network - you can save when you book your tee times online with us at www.golfnow.com – the #1 tee time website in the nation.

Okay, a few weeks ago we talked about John Daly singing background vocals on a recent album by Kid Rock but today we’re going to ask you about someone who actually put their name on an entire album and so, our question for today is:

What member of the World Golf Hall of Fame released an album in the 1970’s featuring songs by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Joni Mitchell? Was it:

A. Seve Ballasteros

B. Tony Jacklin

C. Greg Norman

D. Nick Faldo

Just mark your answer on the entry form at GolfNow.com and tomorrow, we’ll tell you who released their own album and, if your answer is correct, then there will be one more entry in our computer with your name on it for our daily drawings.

Okay, now, let’s find out the answer to our question from yesterday’s show, which was:

What was the highest number of holes required to determine the champion of The U.S. Open?

At the 1931 U.S. Open, Billy Burke and George Von Elm battled it out at the Inverness Club in Ohio and both ended the fourth round tied with a score of eight-over-par 292. So, a 36-hole playoff took place, which also ended with another tie as both men scored 149. So, 36 MORE holes were scheduled and finally, on this date of that year, the two men finished the 144th hole and, at last, the tie was broken and Billy Burke emerged as the winner by a single stroke with a score of 148 – which made for a total of 589 strokes - in what we believe to be the longest shoot-out in golf history.

So, if you answered C – then you were right, which means that you now have one more entry into our computer for our daily drawings and our prize today is a personalized wedge from Upswing Golf along with a dozen personalized Titleist Pro-V1 golf balls. Okay, computer, show me today’s winner:

And our winner today is Brian Ledford of Gastonia, North Carolina, and Brian - to claim your personalized Upswing Golf wedge and Pro-V1s, just send an e-mail to me at keri@golfnow.com within the next 30 days and we will send your prizes out to you.

Okay, that is it for today’s show. I’m Keri Murphy, have a wonderful and safe holiday weekend and I’ll see you back here on Monday for more fun golf trivia and great golf prizes on on GolfNow’s Trivia Contest.
