July 24, 2008

It’s Thursday, July the 24th, I’m Keri Murphy and we’re giving away more free golf and free gas - today on GolfNow’s trivia contest.

Hi everyone and welcome back to GolfNow’s trivia contest. Our featured GolfNow course for today is the Big Island Country Club in Hawaii, another course where you can find great tee time deals when you book online with us at GolfNow.com – just like you can at more than 1,000 courses in over 20 states that make up our GolfNow network.

The Evian Masters is one of the majors on the Ladies Europoean Tour and the first round takes place today in France with last year’s champion, Natalie Gulbis, returning to defend her title. Since this is a popular international tournament, we were curious about something and we thought we would ask you to help us out and, so, our question for today is:

Which country has produced the most winners at the Evian Masters? Is it:

A. France

B. United States

C. Sweden

D. Japan

As always, mark your answer on the entry form at GolfNow.com, and on tomorrow’s show, we’ll tell you which country has the most winners at the Evian Masters and you can find out if your answer was correct. Okay, now, let’s find out the answer to our question from yesterday’s show, which was:

Which golfer once lost the Pensacola Open when he was disqualifed after forgetting to sign his scorecard?

With the exception of a few breaks, The Pensacola Open was a regular stop on the PGA Tour between 1929 and 1988 and winners included Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer and Gary Player. Several golfers were two-time winners including Palmer, Doug Sanders and Gay Brewer but, had it not been for a big mistake in 1966, Doug Sanders would have been the first - and most likely the only - golfer to win three times in the tournament. That was the year that Sanders finished the second round with a four stroke lead and got so busy signing autographs that he forgot to sign his own scorecard. He was notified that he had been disqualified while being interviewed in the press room and Gay Brewer went on to win the first of two consecutive victories at that tournament.

So, if you answered D – then you were right, which means that you now have one more entry into our computer for our daily drawings and once again we’re giving out a free round of golf from golfnow.com plus a free $50 gas card to help you save out on the golf course. Plus, in addition to the free golf and gas, we’re also going to throw in a golf shirt and hat from our friends over at Basic Golf. Okay, computer, show me today’s winner:

And our winner today is Doug Lawrenson of Bellevue, Washington. Congratulations, Doug and now, to claim these prizes, just send an e-mail to me at keri@golfnow.com within the next 30 days.

Okay, that is it for our show on this Thursday. The GolfNow 2008 Rewards Program does just what is says – it rewards you for booking tee times with us. So, in addition to saving on your tee times, you’ll start earning rewards with just two bookings and with every five paid bookings you make after that, you’ll earn rewards from a Putter to Free Golf to a Titanium Driver.
