July 21, 2008
It’s Monday, the 21st day of July and it’s free golf and free gas week starting today on GolfNow’s trivia contest.
Hi, everyone, Keri Murphy back again with GolfNow’s trivia contest and this week, in addition to the savings you can find when you book your tee times on GolfNow.com, we’re going to also give out a free round of golf AND a free $50 gas card every day this week to help you save even more when you go out to the course. But before we get to that, our featured GolfNow course for today is the Mountain View Country Club in Corona, California – another course in our network where you can save when you book online with us at www.golfnow.com – the #1 tee time website in the nation.
Okay, it’s not unusual to lose your temper on the golf course from time to time but, if you’re going to throw something, you might want to make sure no one is in the way. So, with that in mind, our question for today is:
What golfer threw and kicked one of his own golf shoes during a tournament and almost hit a referee in the face? Was it:
A. Tommy Bolt
B. Craig Stadler
C. John Daly or
D. Sergio Garcia
Just mark your answer on the entry form at GolfNow.com and tomorrow, we’ll tell you who had that barefoot temper tantrum and, if your answer was correct, then there will be one more entry in our computer with your name on it for our daily drawings.
Okay, now, let’s find out the answer to our final British Open theme week question from last Friday’s show, which was:
Who was the last champion of The British Open to have his score improve during every round?
It was 1959 and Gary Player was hoping to win his first British Open after 3 previous appearances, but he ended his first round with a score of 75, which wasn’t the best way to start off. His score improved the next day when he shot a 71, but that still left him 8 strokes behind leader Fred Bullock as he moved to the final 36 holes. He shot a 70 in the third round and by the time he got to the 72nd hole, he only needed a four to win. But, then his tee shot landed in a bunker and, if that wasn’t bad enough, he three-putted for a six on the hole, which put his final round score at 68. Player was convinced that he had thrown away his chance at the Claret Jug and had an agonizing wait as the rest of the field finished. But, in the end, his final score of 284 made him the winner by two strokes and also made him the fourth – and last champion to improve his score with each round.
So, if you answered C – then you were right, which means that you now have one more entry into our computer for our daily drawings and all this week, we’re giving away one free round of golf PLUS a $50 GolfNow gas card, and we’ll also throw in one dozen personalized Titliest Pro-V1 golf balls. Okay, computer, show me today’s winner:
