I initially had problems viewing too, but I tried again and works fine now. I’m glad I didn’t have to miss the cabbage patch dance! Brings back fond memories, although I don’t think I looked half as good as Keri doing it. You go girl!

I’m bummed! There I was doing lots of research and I looked up Clearview Golf Course (http://www.clearview-gc.com/) and there it is in plain type: “Clearview has gained notoriety for being the first and thus far, only golf course designed, built, owned and operated by an African-American.”
So the correct answer is Metarie??? Did that guy really have the same impact as William “Bill” Powell? Powell did it all, not just act as a participant. I think some recognition is due here for providing an answer that it truly notable, not just a factoid.
Keri - still doing a great job - you sure do like orange/salmon but I don’t care - it’s a jump start to the day!

There’s no doubt that William Powell left an amazing legacy with the work he did at Clearview Golf Course. Just the fact that he was able to purchase the land as an African-American in the mid-40’s was an achievement. Then, to spend 50 years building the course - including two years to open the first nine holes and then another 30 to open the second nine - and to be able to include his entire family in the endeavor that continues to this day - is remarkable. But, one of the reasons we went with Joseph Bartholomew was that his story is less known, in addition to the fact that he truly was the first African-American to design and build a golf course two decades before Bill Powell. Add to that the fact that he built four more courses in New Orleans - all of which he couldn’t play on because they were all-white - along with courses in Southeast Lousiana and Mississippi and a seven-hole course that he built for him and his friends on his own property, and we felt it was a great story and a fun question. Bill Powell’s impact has certainly expanded beyond the regional boundaries of northern Ohio, but to the people in and around New Orleans who have played golf on courses designed and built by Joe Bartholomew for over 80 years, his work and achievements are certainly considered more than worthy and historic. Don’t be surprised, though, to see a question on William Powell and Clearview Golf Course pop up at some point in the future.

To the person who has been trying to view the video all day, we apologize. Even though we had some issues earlier, we haven’t been aware of any major connection problems and have had a large number of people view the show today. Hopefully whatever is causing the problem will clear up soon.

Thanks for the comments on my dancing, everyone! I mean, how can you not love the Cabbage Patch - although I have to be careful about how much I dance when the cameras are on! Oh, and Rich H - I haven’t worn orange or salmon in three days now! Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
