The first movie we know of that was based on golf was the 1953 film, “Follow the Sun” starring Glenn Ford, which told the story of Ben Hogan’s amazing comeback from his near-fatal car crash. Sam Snead, Jimmy Demaret and Cary Middlecoff were all featured in that film and other golfers have been seen on the silver screen since then including Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson and Sam Snead in the Jerry Lewis/Dean Martin comedy The Caddy, Arnold Palmer playing golf against Bob Hope in Call Me Bwana and Lee Trevino, of course, in Happy Gilmore.
