August 21, 2008

It’s Thursday, August 21st, I’m Keri Murphy and we’re giving away a TaylorMade stand golf bag - today on GolfNow’s trivia contest.

Hi everyone and welcome back to GolfNow’s trivia contest. Our featured GolfNow course for today is the Ahwatukee Country Club in Phoenix, another course where you can find great tee time deals when you book online with us at GolfNow.com – just like you can at more than 1,000 courses in over 20 states that make up our GolfNow network.

Okay, the UCLA Bruins won both the team and individual NCAA Men’s Golf titles this year and you might not know just how long intercollegiate golf has actually been around. So, with that in mind, our question for today is:

Which college won the very first intercollegiate golf tournament? Was it:

A. Yale

B. Harvard

C. Princeton

D. Stanford

As always, mark your answer on the entry form at GolfNow.com and, tomorrow, we’ll tell you which college it was and we’ll find out if your answer earned you another entry into our daily drawings. Okay, let’s find out the answer to yesterday’s question, which was:

Which member of the WGHoF was the only player to win the British Open three consecutive times during the 20th century?

Australia’s Peter Thomson was inducted into the WGHoF in 1988 and will celebrate his 79th birthday this weekend. During his career, he won Open championships in ten countries including the Italian, Spanish and German Opens, plus the Australian Open three times and the New Zealand Open nine times. He is also the only player to win three consecutive times at The British Open during the 20th Century with wins in 1954, 55 and 56 – but, after two more wins in 1958 and 1965, he also became one of only four men in the history of that tournament to win the Claret Jug five times.

So, if you answered D – then you were right, which means that you now have one more entry into our computer for our daily drawings and today we’re giving away a TaylorMade Phantom stand golf bag. Okay, computer, show me today’s winner:

And our winner is Michael Kato of Upland, California. Congratulations, Michael and now, to claim this TaylorMade bag, just send an e-mail to me at keri@golfnow.com within the next 30 days.
