It’s Highway 18 Tuesday and you might win a Golf Channel prize package - today on GolfNow’s trivia contest.
Hi, everyone, I’m Keri Murphy, the host of Highway 18, which airs tonight on the Golf Channel, back again with another edition of GolfNow’s trivia contest. Our featured course for today is the Hapuna Golf Club on the big island of Hawaii - another course in our GolfNow network where you can find great savings when you book your tee times online with us at www.GolfNow.com.
Okay, it’s not completely unusual for someone in the gallery to get hit by a golf ball during a tournament, but how many golfers can say they got hit by their own ball? Well, that’s we want to find out and so, our question for today is:
Which golfer knocked himself out with his own ball after it ricocheted off a stone wall? Was it:
A. Walter Hagen
B. Gene Sarazen
C. Gary Player or
D. Julius Boros
Just go to the entry form at GolfNow.com to submit your answer and tomorrow we’ll tell you who made that painful shot and we’ll find out if your answer was correct. Okay, now let’s find out the answer to yesterday’s question, which was:
Which of these golfers did NOT win the U.S. Amateur Championship?
The USGA was formed in 1894 and the very next year created one official amateur championship for the country to avoid a controversy that happened the year before when two separate golf clubs held tournaments and both claimed that theirs was the national champion. So, the first USGA U.S. Amateur Championship took place in 1895 at Newport Country Club and since then, many of the biggest names in the sport have been champions including Bobby Jones, who holds the record for most wins, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. Out of our list of answer choices, however, the one who never won the tournament was Tom Kite, who was runner-up behind Lanny Wadkins in 1970.
So, if you answered D - then you were right and you now have one more entry into our daily drawings and, to go along with the new episode of Highway 18 tonight, we’re giving away a Golf Channel prize package. Okay, computer – show me today’s winner:
And our winner is Michelle Beierle of Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Congratulations, MIchelle, and to claim this great prize package, just send an e-mail to me at keri@golfnow.com within the next 30 days.
Okay, that’s it for today’s show. Tonight on Highway 18, the teams turn the world’s most famous beach into the ultimate bunker challenge before rushing to the Orlando Magic practice facility for a full-court putting contest. So, I hope you can tune in tonight at 10pm Eastern Time for Highway 18, only on the Golf Channel. I’m KM, have a great day and I’ll see you back again tomorrow for more GolfNow trivia.
