Internal Transportation

Ireland Drive Times

Due to the isolated location of many golf clubs, some form of road transportation will be necessary. There are essentially two options here, self-drive car rental or hire of a car and driver service.

Car rental is the most economical way of getting around Ireland. Rental companies include basic insurance in the costs which allow you to legally drive, they will offer you a range of optional extras at the time of rental which you can decide to take or not to take. Bear in mind that in Ireland we drive on the left hand side of the road and while the roads between major towns are generally excellent, the approaches to golf clubs are often narrow and uneven, driving here does require a little more concentration than at home but this should not put you off taking this option.

Hiring the services of a driver makes the trip more enjoyable and relaxed for many people. These experienced professionals will meet you on arrival in the airport and then accompany you throughout the trip. They will suggest the best places to stop for breaks and ensure that you arrive at the golf course in good time for your tee-off. Obviously, having the services of a driver will mean increased costs compared to the car rental option but when divided among your group you may decide that the security and peace of mind this service offers is suitable for you.

There are some internal flights which you might consider taking, these include:

  • Dublin – Kerry
  • Dublin – Donegal
  • Dublin - Derry
  • Belfast – Cork
  • Belfast – Galway

For those that really want a special adventure the option to hire a helicopter for some or all of the transfers is available.
