Individual Modified Point Quota

  • For an 18 hole tournament: An individual point “quota” is derived by taking one’s handicap and subtracting it from 36.
    • Example: A player with a handicap of 8 has a point “quota” of 28 (36-8=28)
  • For a 9 hole tournament: An individual point “quota” is derived by taking one’s handicap and subtracting it from 36, then dividing by 2.
    • Example: A player with a handicap of 8 has a point “quota” of 14 (36-8=28, then 28 divided by 2 = 14)
    • Please note: Because odd-numbered handicaps, when subtracted from 36 and divided by 2 result in a decimal (36-9=27, then 27 divided by 2 = 13.5), a player will round up to the nearest whole number (in this case, to 14), to find his/her individual point “quota.”
  • The goal of each player is to exceed his/her point “quota” by as many points as possible by scoring points under the following guidelines:
    • 8 points are earned for an eagle; 4 points for a birdie; 2 points for a par; 1 point for a bogey; and 0 points for a double bogey or worse.
  • A player’s final round score is derived by taking his/her individual point “quota” and subtracting it from the total amount of points accrued during the round played
    • Example: In a 9 hole tournament, a player with a handicap of 8 has a point “quota” of 14, then scores 16 points throughout his/her round, to finish with a final round score of +2.
  • League Managers have the right to adjust your Quota based off historical rounds

Points Standings

GolfNow Golf League events will assign points to each participant, based on the number of players in the event and based on one’s individual overall finish. A player’s points will accrue throughout the season to determine a year-end winner.

Points will be assigned as follows:

If there are 36 players playing in the event, the points will break out:

  • 1st – 36 points
  • 2nd – 35 points
  • 3rd – 34 points
  • 4th – 33 points
  • 5th – 32 points
  • 6th – 31 points
  • 7th – 30 points
  • 8th – 29 points
  • 9th – 28 points
  • 10th – 27 points
  • And so on, all the way to 36th – 1 point
  • In the case of ties, the points assigned for the tied places will be combined, then evenly split
    • Example: A two-way tie for first would result in combining the 1st and 2nd place points (36+35=71), then evenly splitting them between the two tied players, assigning each player with 35.5 points (71 divided by 2).

What is a shotgun format?

It is a way to start a tournament in which all groups of players tee off simultaneously from different holes. If there are 9 groups of foursomes in a tournament, then each hole on the course will serve as the starting hole for a different group. Group A would start from No. 1, Group B from No. 2, and so on, and each group would begin play at the same time. A shotgun start allows for a tournament to be completed in the time it normally takes one group to finish 9 holes.
