General's Ridge Golf Course 2.5 5 15 15
Not very fun Greens were in Horrible shape. Impossible to make a put over 4 feet no matter how well you read it due to the uneven surface. 75% of fairway shots are blind. The course layout is challenging in a good way though. Fairways are in good shape. The golf carts are very slow and at times can barely make it up the steep hills on this course. I would have given this course 3-4 stars if the greens were better. There is no excuse to have greens in that bad of shape even if it is the beginning of the spring. April 3, 2013
I Really Like This Course If you are looking for a course that not only challenges your golf skills, but your ability to esimate the location and distance of your ball, then this is the course for you. General's Ridge is amazing challenging, the staff are cordial and the price is good. However, it could use some ground work. Will play this course again and again....Thanks April 2, 2013
green was in repair. green was fullfilled with sand and hole. hard to control putting. though, weather was great to enjoy. just okay with low budjet even on weekend. March 25, 2013
Tough layout compounded by winter conditions, not worth the $. Tough layout, coupled by winter conditions not worth the $ January 14, 2013
Golf is golf, but is this really a golf course? First time playing the course. Starter(s) and clubhouse staff friendly but absent beyond that. There was no marshall patrolling the grounds to alleviate slow play. I was told when making the turn (after 3 1/2 hours) that they were shorthanded. The 4th tee box had three foursomes stacked up and there was no way to know if the group ahead was safely away nor was there a bell to ring on the fairway to indicate the next group could tee off. The tee shot is also blind and visually narrow to know if a tee shot is in play so I saw several golfers hit more than one ball. I was lucky as I hit driver and an 8 iron to the green (that was narrow and long) as this is an all downhill par 5. There are several (too many for me) blind approach shots to a green. If you stray 20 yards from the fairway (I use that term lightly as there was no difference in the cut for fairway and rough), you will find the trees or worse. Too many balls were lost in the trees (only 10 or so feet into them) as the leaves from fall were still there which added to the frustration. Bunkers need to be worked daily. These looked like they had not been attended to for days. When using the practice putting green, I was hopeful the course greens would not also have severe slopes (US Open golf anyone?). I was again frustrated with the pin placements as I three putted 5 times on the front 9 thinking I could make 20 foot puts instead of lagging all putts there were not straight uphill. Miss a putt struck with good speed and it will stop rolling 5-15 feet from the hole. Mini-golf anyone? I was told by the starter that a first time golfer will either hate the course or love it. He was right as I have no plan to return. January 13, 2013
Course is well layed out but needs a lot of work. Work required concerns greens (to hilly on some), fairways (replace with zoysia like they did at Meadows Farms), tee boxes (Zoysia), ball washers (keep them filled with soapy water), cart paths (need patching in many places). A short but very challanging course but if not put into playing condition needs to be turned into a housing development. Need to spend money to make money. Great potential to be a super, challangiing course but needs work. November 16, 2012
Very Challenging, but Enjoyable Course I have played General's Ridge several times, and it has yet to disappoint me. I particuarly enjoy the 4th hole and the 16th hole (their "signature hole"). If you spray the ball around, you will have a long day, but I enjoyed the challenge and it kept me coming back every time. November 11, 2012
Challenging but playable Many blind fairways and greens. This course is short but requires straight shots to avoid loosing your ball. You would want to go back to try and tame it. October 31, 2012
Late Season Adventure Played in early October, course was very wet. Many of the tee boxes are sheltered by towering trees, so some areas don't get enough sunlight. Many of the greens were a mess, with large patches without grass, and hard as a rock in some areas. In addition, the exaggerated slope on some of the greens, especially in the areas where the cup was located, made putting a frustrating experience. There is difficult, and then there is silly. Feels like they tried to do too much with the greens, and now have trouble maintaining them. In addition, most of the fairways had not been cut in a while; the grass in the fairway was more like light rough. Fairly challenging course, many of the holes were short but with sharp angles to prevent low scores. Would probably go back in the spring to see if it was just a late-season effect on the course, but overall not impressed. October 12, 2012
Seen better days I had played this course a few times years ago. The course is not that difficult aside from the sloping hills that are present on just about every hole. It used to have GPS range finders in the cart and fairly well tended grounds. Unfortunately that is no more. On most holes, there was no difference between rough and fairway. Drainage is obviously a problem. It seemed like every ball I hit ended up in a muddy divot or carrying a side of dirt. The greens had been scuffed and marked up. This was never the best of courses but it has really gone downhill. October 10, 2012
Don't play it. Unless you like playing on dirt. Terrible condition. Fairway grass have all, 18 holes, been killed. No grass to speak of including the tee boxes. The course should be closed until they revive the grass. October 5, 2012
Challenging course, needs less watering and more grass! Several holes have blind tee shots, and the occasional approach shot(s) too. Very hilly course, thankgoodness for carts, you would have to be super fit to walk it. Played the course twice, and look forward to more. The grounds are in generally poor shape, I'm certain much of this is weather related, however, a lot of work is urgently required to lay more turf over the entire course, including the greens. There are many bare patches of earth. Greens are tricky but true. October 4, 2012
Tough Course Played this course 3 times this year. First two I really enjoyed, but this last time the course was in bad shape. October 4, 2012
poor, won't go back Course was in horrible condition. Greens had fungus and were patchy at best. No yardage cards. Many blind tee shots that even the straight hitter could find the fairways. September 25, 2012
Course conditions have greatly deteriorated. This is a tough course under the best of conditions. I love a challenge, but these past years have seen a steady decline in course maintenance. Now the fairways are in such poor shape that even a good tee shot is rewarded with a bad lie. It will take a long-term commitment and many months of maintenance to return this course to average playable condition. The greens and rough are not much better. It is well below average. I just won't play it again at any price until the required restorations and maintenance are accomplished. September 20, 2012
