tight course suffering from lack of water
It's a private course with houses that are in play on many holes. Brown fairways with splotchy greens that are nevertheless true and quick. Similar condition as Vaaler Cr., White Wing, and River Place, all of which I played this week. Some signage issues on this course as the new 9 overlap here and there with the original course.

Decent course for the price I paid on Golf Now
I played during the transition period from winter to spring. Fairways are generous and the greens were showing signs of spring growth. All in all a nice facility.

Play Onion Creek
Great deal on a Great course. Fairways re easy to hit from. Greens are fast but true. Bunkers could use some sand not fluffed up dirt. Looking forward to going back again.

Great course, where the LPGA and Champions Tour have held tournaments.
It is always a treat to play Onion Creek, it is a fun golf course that will test every part of you game. Greens are in great shape and the round was very enjoyable.

Fun course with a traditional design
I really liked the course. Every hole presented a way to play it for every player. They didn't take the driver out of your hands very often, which I appreciate. The course and greens were in very good condition with the exception of the bunkers. Two of the four bunkers I was in had almost no sand in the bottoms of them, and were rock hard underneath the thin layer of sand. This is fine for fairway bunkers, but is not good for greenside bunkers. The only other criticism is the staff was a bit curt when they recognized me as a Golf Now player and not a member. Overall I liked the course, and the price was about right. It is certainly not a $100+ a round quality of course, but they seem to think they are.

Challenging but could be better
Challenging course. Some very tight holes with houses sometimes too close. Green are fast and difficult to read.

Average
Sand traps need attention. Fairways bare in some spots.

Private & Difficult
I will alway remember this course as it gave me my first birdie. It wasn't easy either. Great course and super fast greens. If you can get it on line it will sink, if not it could be gone. Enjoy the history of the course while you enjoy the scenery. Difficult, but worth the play!

Staff was courteous and friendly. Course was in good shape for this time of year.
Onion Creek was in good shape for this time of the year. Greens were slow due to moisture. Fariways were pretty brown and drued out. Stafe was courteous and friendly. Good value for the money. Would definitely play again!

Going to use every club in the bag
Played this on a fairly cold day over the hoildays so my partner and I were able to play as a twosome. First off, the practice area was really awesome as it was right next to the first tee and had putting, chipping, sand and a regular driving range all within 100 feet of each other. Loved the fact the balls were already out on the range as well. The course itself was in great winter condition with a slight exception to the greens. While green in color, there was plenty of bumps to them. They were exceptionally fast as well, which while great, some of the pin positions left you feeling as if you were at Augusta. There is a par 5 on the front nine that is diabolical looking off the tee. And certainly played like it if you missed the fairway which I did. It literally looks like there is no place to hit the fairway and that is without leaves on the trees. Some extremely beautiful holes on this course however and it definitely feels like you are isolated despite some housing around you. While not a member, I found a great deal here for 67 dollars. That is extremely worth it to me and would have to say this is the best course in Austin that I have played. Would love to see this course on Golfnow more often of course. Pro shop was packed with all kinds of stuff, like a small Golfsmith. Cart service on the course was great. The concession stand was a small slide open window in which to order and they had great breakfast tacos. Hope to see this course in the spring for sure!

great old course with lots of history
the original course is a gem and the north course is not quite as interesting...not cheap, but a nice course for the money...you can never tell which of the three 9's you are playing and it DOES make a difference...

What a value
Been wanting to play Onion Creek since I was a kid. Not sure how the original was but the North course was great both tight and open holes w small greens that putted true and quick. Can't wait to play again!

One of the best older courses in Austin
This is a course that Bing Crosby loved to play. In fact, his hat is on display in the Pro Shop. Nearly every hole has magnificent old trees. Every hole has its challenges but they can be met by determined duffers as well as more gifted golfers. Length off the tee is not a great advantage on this course; solid chipping and putting is far more important.
The club house facilities are in need of modernizing but the course is well-maintained.
This is my favorite course in the Austin area.

It was a super opportunity to play one of the best courses in Austin.
Everything was great but we were disappointed that the only food the snack bar had were some mediocre cold sandwiches.

Once a great course, slipping downhill.
I would have to assume that the Onion Creek customer base is dwindling, as they are now opening up tee-times to the public. It is obvious that this course was once a gem, but over the past several years it appears to be aging. Bunkers weren't well-maintained, but overall it is a well-conditioned and challenging course. My main problem was that we had to play the last 3 holes with the sprinklers turned on! And these are golf-course sprinklers - not your dinky home lawn stuff. It was not dusk and clearly these were set on timers without any consideration towards the longer summer days and discount-minded golfers. When I asked the pro-shop guy after the round about it, he just shrugged it off. I had made up my mind to return to the course until that point.

Golf History, Accessibility, Affordability
There are two routings to Onion Creek -- Original and North -- with 9 holes woven in to the original 18 by Crenshaw/Coore. If you have an appreciation for golf history, there's a nice bit of it here--the Original course saw the birth of what is now the Champions Tour, with the unforgettable 1978 Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf. Or, you could just appreciate the course itself--either routing, Original or North, although the North has a couple of unremarkable holes here and there. Layout and challenge lean slightly toward "pleasant", but pay attention around the greens to stay away from big numbers. History buff or not, you'll enjoy Onion Creek.

super value for the money mid-week
Best value in South Austin mid-week. Course is a country club with all amenities. Try to arrive early to use driving range, chipping area & putting green.
