Avery Ranch Golf Club, located a half-hour north of downtown Austin near Cedar Park, debuted in 2002 and immediately became a favorite upscale daily-fee course in the suburbs of the Texas capital. With a tee time here, you ll enjoy all the thrills and joys of Texas Hill Country golf. Though the golf grounds wind through a residential development, portions of the playing field that approach Brushy Creek exude a more natural and secluded feel. As is typical of the Hill Country, the land is highly varied. A parade of limestone caverns, knobby live-oak trees, rolling hills, and meandering streams and lakes leaves players eager to see what comes next at Avery Ranch Golf Club. Course architect Andy Raugust, who gained experience as an associate at Nicklaus Design before striking out on his own, laid out the playing field on a site characterized by elevation changes and slopes that are more gentle than severe. Sweeping bunkers define and defend the generous fairways. Plenty of trees line the playing corridors as well, putting a premium on accuracy. While the greens at Avery Ranch Golf Club are predominantly large, they feature distinct sections that allow for set-ups with intriguing pin positions. This is a course skilled players gravitate to. At 7,121 yards, Avery Ranch Golf Club is a match for anyone s skill, but four other sets of tee markers plus two hybrid options listed on the scorecard, provide manageable distances for players of wide-ranging skill sets. With five par threes and five par 5s (the 14th and 15th are back-to-back par fives), Avery Ranch Golf Club serves up a fun variety of holes. Among the most memorable tests are the par-3 13th, with its narrow, deep green flanked by a creek and a limestone wall, and the very tough and beautiful 18th, a long par 4 that plays beside Lake Avery and culminates at another narrow putting surface. Avery Ranch Golf Club is a walkable course just a couple of long treks between holes may give you pause. Practice facilities include a driving range equipped with TopTracer bays, a chipping green and a putting green.
