Great condition with very fast greens I loved this course. Wide fairways, with lightning fast greens. April 1, 2013
Excellent Public Course Avery Ranch is one of the best public courses in the Austin area. The course offered a nice variety of holes and excellent greens. The pace of play was a touch on the slow side, but it was a Friday afternoon on a holiday weekend so it wasn't a big surprise. I'd certainly recommend Avery Ranch to others. March 30, 2013
Course was in excellent shape - great round! This was a great course - it was definitely worth the drive from SW Austin - will absolutely play again! March 25, 2013
Enjoyable golf experience Avery Ranch is a fun golf course that holds your attention without beating you up. The design is a nice blend of benign and challenging holes laid over interesting, Hill Country topography. Adjacent housing on several of the holes really doesn't come into play or affect the character of the course. Our most recent experience revealed the golf course to be in its customary good condition. The greens appeared to have recently been verti-cut, so they were a little longer than usual (maybe 8.5-9 on the Stimp), which is not uncommon after this procedure. All the same, they putted true and were in otherwise good shape. Fairways and aprons were very good for this early in the growing season. I was in three greenside bunkers and they were in generally good shape with the right kind of sand. The beverage cart girl and the bartender were pleasant and professional. The starter wasn't as crusty as I remembered him; maybe somebody had a word with him and he had thus undergone a positive attitude change. The pro behind the desk was friendly and helpful with directions, etc. Midway through the front nine the marshal had to encourage us on one occasion. I felt this was legit since our higher handicap players were dawdling a little. He was businesslike if not truly friendly and never crossed the line. All in all, it was a fun day and we'll be back. The greens were slow and need attention. Okay if you are looking for an upscale muni. There are a few really in ce holes. We travel several times a year to play golf and have played all over the country. This is not a course we would travel to play again. It is a good layout, just not a course worthy when compared to Wolfdancer or Paa Ko Ridge or Black Mesa. March 19, 2013
heard good things about it. the course was not in good shape when we played it. the greens were being airated, so they had a lot of bumps. the holes were interesting and the staff was very good. March 7, 2013
Conditions are inconsistent Sometimes Avery is great, sometimes it's in rough shape. My last round the greens had just been sanded and no one told us when we booked, checked in, or tee'd off. Got to number one green and it was like putting in a bunker. Other than that, the course was in nice shape. March 6, 2013
One of the best tracks in the area. Scenic but challenging. My family frequently play this course. Typcially in good shape. Greens have been plugged and sanded getting ready for spring. Sand traps need more attention. Inconsistent quality with many having large rocks and hard pan. A large walking contingency contributes to slow pace of play. People taking short cuts from 11 green to 18 tee late in the day caused backups as well. This needs to be better managed if not halted. March 5, 2013
This is a great course for the money ! Played on a Saturday morning. They have nice chipping green, putting greens and driving range to start out with. The course was in good shape considering it is the end of February ! The green had just been airated duing the week so there was a little sand on them, but they still where in good shape. Very challenging layout, especially on the front nine holes. Beautiful setting in the suburbs not far from Austin. Played this course just after the greens had been "sanded", so not a true indicator of how this course normally looks and plays. Sand on the greens definitely detracted from the action on the greens and made the putts much slower. It appears that the winter months have affected the greens and fairways of this course to a much greater extent than other courses I have played in this area. When the greens are in good shape and the dormant grass begins to come out with warmer weather, this course should be back to it's normal great condition. Lengthy holes are the norm here, so be prepared with your long game. Offers very different looks and challenges on each hole, so you will not be bored when playing this course. Has creeks/ravines that enhance the challenges on several holes. Also plenty of trees. Two thumbs up regarding the bunkers/sand traps ; they are very well-maintained. Plenty of wildlife to see throughout the a typical round--deer, chapparals, and squirrels. If you can get a good price through GolfNow, do this. Otherwise you will pay a rather stout fee to play here as compared to other area courses. Note that the carts are not equipped with GPS, which is an oddity for a couse with this kind of fee scale. Has a nice practice range. However, the putting greens are a glaring weakness; could use a complete make-over of the putting greens. Overall, when the course is in top condition it is worth it to go and play it. March 4, 2013
Liked this course I really enjoyed this course. Plan to take the family next time. February 20, 2013
Always a great course - this time was no different. Played for our Annual President's Day Cup here and the experience could only have been better if I had remembered my golf shoes and actually played well..... The course was expectedly in great shape - it ALWAYS is. Other courses around the area need to take note. I wish I could afford a membership. February 20, 2013
Beautiful course. Well maintained. Great value! Beautiful course. Well maintained. Great value! I can't wait to play here again. February 20, 2013
Avery is looking great in 2013 I love this course and would highly recommend it, especially if you can find a deal on GolfNow. The course is in great shape. The greens are rolling great and the course is challenging, but not too much. February 14, 2013
Nice Public Club at a decent price Avery Ranch is a very nice public golf club. They greens run true, fairways stay green and it plays well. Could be difficult for beginners, but it is worth a round at all levels of play. Expect to play at least 4 hours and maybe longer just because of distances from greens to the next tee. February 12, 2013
Course was in very good shape, weather was light drizzle but the greens still played true. Course was in very good shape for winter golf. Driving range just off the first tee box is nice plus having the chipping green next to #1 makes it nice to be able to swing the club before you start your round. The only down was GolfNow showed GPS and the carts do not have this. Other then that is was a good outing. February 11, 2013
Challenging...but fair Needs better fairway markings on distance to pin . Difficult to read hazards on score cards. Blind shots should be marked at tee box With distance to hazard February 7, 2013
Very nice course great staff. Fairways need water the grass is too dry. Course need to find ways to encourage members to fix ball marks and fill divots February 6, 2013
Excellent conditions Course was in perfect shape. Hard to believe for February. February 3, 2013
This course looked very nice despite it being January. I had a great time. The friendly attendant let my partner and I skip back a few tee times in order to warm-up. It is sort of dangerous at parts on the course when you can't see if there's someone in drivable range up ahead just out of side, ex. #18 when down by the ravine on the left, halfway to the hole. February 3, 2013
Pretty course Course is in really good condition for this time of the year, a must play for out of towners. January 4, 2013
Course has good variety and is in good condition Enjoyed a good round of golf in cool, windy conditions on this course that is not very forgiving. While it is quite easy to lose a few balls if you veer off the fairway too far, if you keep the ball in play and can take advantage of the smooth greens running at a good pace, you can put a decent score together. The 5th and 7th holes in particular deserve respect. They can easily ruin you score, as they do to me this time out. December 30, 2012
This course is a must play when in Austin. A very "Hill Country" golf course, with lots of elevation changes and risk-reward experiences. They offer a great practice facility. Course conditions were overall good, after several days of very low overnight temps. Tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, greens all were in good shape. The rough can be pentalizing, with the rocky outcropings, catus. Plenty of deer on the front nine in the afternoon,so be careful you may hit one. December 30, 2012
Great layout I am from Oregon and play year around, but I have never played in colder weather. 25 at the start and 32 at the finish. But as cold as I was, I quickly overcame that as I became excited about the challenges of the course. I decided to play again the next day when it was slightly warmer and I want to come back in the spring. December 27, 2012
Great variety of holes One of the best balanced courses in Austin. A great mix of tight, challenging holes with a few wide-open scoring opportunity holes. I've golfed here in every season and the course is always in great shape, even when others are dried out with drought. December 11, 2012
This course have several challeging holes Cource was in great shap for Dec play here often so Im very familar with it . Can't say that make my game better. December 10, 2012
Excellent conditions on a very challenging and diverse course Great cojndition and value for the Central Texas area, December 1, 2012
One of the best public courses in Austin! Avery ranch is always is grey condition. Seems to be a challenging course that will also allow you to score as well. The greens are in excellent condition as well! November 25, 2012
GREAT COURSE GREAT COURSE !!IF YOUR IN AUSTIN PLAY THIS COURSE . November 19, 2012
Excellent course Good condition of fairways, greens and bunkers. It has several challenge holes but very interesting. I'm handicap 20, and if you don't have a moderate and accurate driver, you will lose some balls... I enjoyed a lot. November 5, 2012
