Overpriced course with a reputation for trying to make money vs. investing in course conditions I live in Northwest Austin and used to play @ Avery Ranch just about every weekend. I stopped playing there last year after they raised their rates and due to the consistent poor quality of their greens. I decided to go back today and see if anything had changed. Sadly, it has not. The course still is at least $25 overpriced on the weekends. The greens were spotty at best, and multiple tee boxes had more sand and gravel than grass. I ended up playing as a single after amid-up at the pro shop, and found myself behind two foursomes. When I finally got past the 2nd foursome on #12, I never saw another golfer the rest of the round. How does a single in a cart not catch up to anyone else for 6 holes?? The ranger did nothing to speed up the foursomes ahead of me; they clearly were members who the course didn't want to upset because they are spending money there. I'll go back to playing Falconhead; same price with much better greens and overall course conditions, and much more attentive staff who care about the pace of play. March 22, 2015
One of the Best in Austin If you want a to play a great course and willing to spend the money this is a good choice. Plays fair but challenging. March 21, 2015
Good condition for late winter Course was in great shape for early March. Play with my 14 Year old son (10 hdcp) here a few times a year and are never disappointed. Even with recent sand added to greens they rolled true. A number of walkers on the course but it did not hinder play. March 13, 2015
avery ranch is getting worse Tee d off Wednesday 12:04... Hardly anyone on the course...took 47 minutes to play 2 holes!!!! Unbelievably slow members. Tried to scoot around the group in front of us. Got to #4. A threesome 2 walkers playin out of the same bag.5-9 backed up.on 7 watched a guy walk across the entire fairway(no club in hand) go down in the gully to look for his ball. Came across to cart and dropped, hit it back into the gully. This while the worthless Marshall sat in his cart watching. Unreal!! The course is in horrible shape from tee to green. Avery, you should be ashamed. Left since I could not find an open spot anywhere. On way back in I saw a 6 some on 4...what on earth is avery mgmt thinking. March 11, 2015
overpriced It was 1 of 3 local courses that we played on a recent golf trip. It was set up through a PGA pro. We paid the full rate ($90) which is a shame since golfnow seems to have much better rates for all sorts of tee times. The course lay out wasn't bad and the facility itself is nice. The greens were awful. By far the worst greens of the 3 courses we played. This course is fine if you're spending $45 but I would highly recommend going somewhere else if you're spending more money. Decent but not great This course has some beautiful holes and a great layout however they recently aerated the greens so that took away from the game. Other than that the fairways and bunkers were good for this time of year but the tee boxes were beat up. March 3, 2015
Winter golf trip Came to Austin to play for a winter break. We have played here before. The course is very challenging & was in great shape for the winter, Greens were very fast & smooth. A little more money, but a very nice course. Would not recommend for the beginner golfer or a very short hitter.. February 21, 2015
Fun Experience This course really makes you feel like a member. Everyone was polite and very helpful. It is a very scenic and nice course to play. I would recommend it to anyone. February 10, 2015
