The only Jack Nicklaus designed golf course on the island!

One of America's Top 100 Courses Under $100

Recognized as one of “America's Top 100 Courses Priced Under $100” for 2002 by Travel and Leisure magazine, this Nicklaus-designed public golf course has quickly earned a name for itself as one of the top-rated layouts on an island of top-flight designs. Ever-present water and sand keep play interesting, but never penalizing. Golfers will find the course puts a premium on strategy and finesse, rather than sheer power. Winding through a beautiful landscape of oak and pine woodlands, the Golden Bear is a fitting complement to the prestigious residential community of Indigo Run.

Great course This course is an excellent play on the island. We play it every year. This year (2014) the greens were great. Pace of play is good we played in 3 1/2 hours in the afternoon . Will be back next year. July 15, 2014
Great Time It was our first time playing this course. Staff was very friendly, conditions were very good, pace of play was good, and difficulty of course was a very good challenge for average golfers. We had a great time. July 15, 2014
Great course layout--- BEST deal on the ISland! Best deal on the Island. Greens rolled great. Completely healed from aerification. Spoke with the superintendent july 8th and was told they would top dress on the 10th so it might take a few days to grow through. I've always liked this layout! July 13, 2014
Hidden Gem Great Value for a beautiful course. Tucked in a nice community in the middle of HH island. Would definitely play there again July 11, 2014
Nice course, slow play Had an 8:24 tee time but got out 30 min late because an earlier group was running late?? Couse was in good condition but pace of play was way too slow for a Thursday morning. Great hot dog and saw the beverage cart several times. All in all not too bad, just wish the staff would have addressed the slow play issue they were made aware of. July 11, 2014
It is a gem of a course Great course, very friendly and courteous staff, and beautiful layout. Also plentiful shade provided by amazing tree lines. Plan to play this course when you come to Hilton head . July 9, 2014
Really mixed feelings on this... Was recommended this course by a friend. Have only positive things to say about the facilities. Grass on the range was a little sparse, but nothing uncommon for a resort course. Clubhouse was nice, people were great and friendly. The course was in good shape in my opinion for the most part. Fairways and tee boxes were great. Greens were good for 95% of the course. Couple greens had some areas under repair and some spots where there were bare spots, but the pins weren't in those areas, so it wasn't an issue. As others have commented recently, the greens were really slow though. The group I was paired with all commented how hard it was to get the ball to the hole and then when you would, all of a sudden you're going 5-6 ft past it. I guess the consistency of the greens seems to be lacking. Now about the layout. I was not a big fan of it. It's like if you drive the ball 250+, the course is set up to hit woods or irons off the tees. I had 5-6 really good tee shots that were running through the fairway into a bunker at 260-275 that were struck down the middle. TONS of doglegs where you're penalized for being a good ball striker with the driver. Also, someone else has commented on the greens and the putts. I couldn't believe how many STRAIGHT putts there were. I don't know if it was the pins today or what, but I have never had so many blah putts in my life. I literally was 8 for 10 from 5-12 ft. Nice place, great service and staff. I paid $83 and I wouldn't do it again. If I were wanting to score well, I would probably hit my driver 5 times to make sure I wasn't penalized for drives. You literally could tee off with a 3 iron and shoot in the low 70's from the blue tees as a single digit handicap. July 8, 2014
better value elsewhere The pace of play was one of the better aspects of our round. For the price ($56) we paid, going a few minutes of the island to Crescent Pointe or Old South, is a better value. The greens were very slow, particularly for small, flat greens.the layout is not particularly interesting, either. Overall, on par with similar courses right off the island, but for less value.
