Just as the Game of Golf in America started in Charleston with Harleston Greens in 1786, The City of Charleston Golf Course is where many area golfers get their start. Affectionately referred to as "The Muni," The City Course opened in 1929 and has known a great deal of Charleston golf history. It has hosted the South Carolina State Championship and remains the home of the Charleston City Amateur.

The Municipal Course is a very golfer-friendly course. Most days, 18-holers play in less than 4 hours. The design is a traditional early 20th century golf course with modern upgrades of the new millenium. One of the few walkable golf courses in Charleston, The City Course boasts 6 sets of tees to accomodate all playing levels. Yardages start at 3628 yards and lengthen to 6432 yards. With open green fronts and no forced carries except for the championship tees, it is a wonderful course for beginners, women, and seniors.

The design, layed out by Johnny Adams with many Seth Raynor characteristics, is also a challenge. The small greens and the surrounding bunkers test even the best player's skill. It is no wonder that over 60,000 rounds are played annually.

Charleston's reputation as a golf vacation destination is growing. First-timers may find it hard to believe, but The City Course is a favorite with the tourists as well. Many a day The "Muni" Grill is abuzz with accents from around the world comparing stories about their golf travels. With multiple-day golf vacations, a day to play "The Muni" is often set aside. The Monday Night Blitz (Summer Mondays) draws 4 person teams regularly from all over Charleston.

Charleston Municipal Golf Course 3.1 5 10 10
Good course to walk and work on mechanics was about it minus working on putting as greens needed a trim Ok layout but to much for course. needs to have greens trimmed and better drainage on several holes. April 6, 2013
Should be one of the top 20 muni courses in the USA Amazing great winter conditions! Greens were a little long but beats the other local greens some of which are bare! I was checked in once before by a gray haired guy with a mullet who was very rude, arrogant and non professional looking in his appearance and customer service. Brian check me in this time at the pro shop , he was very courteous, knowledgeable about the course and professional. This is an excellent municipal course with a fantastic grill. April 3, 2013
greens and 1st cut around greens are not as nice as the fairways; very rough. Play is slower then anticipated for a basically flat course with few haz greens and 1st cut around greens are not as nice as the fairways; very rough. The Muni, great value. Small greens. Great value. Wide range of golfers. Only course in Charleston where you can play in jeans. February 23, 2013
good conditions tee boxs were good, greens were in best shape they have been in all year.. February 3, 2013
Country club attitude at the Muni Typical day at the Muni, grumpy entitled golfers behind and in front us, impatient and expecting to play a round with a course full of 4-somes in 3 hours. Lighten up, its the MUNI. February 1, 2013
The Course is overplayed. It was a holiday and the weather was unseasonably warm so the course was packed. I made the tee time on GolfNow.com. When I arrived the tee time had been given to a foursome. They could have had another staff member working in the pro shop based on the backup at the counter. I have played this course before on several occasions and have never found it to be in the best of shape. That's why it's a "MUNI" so I know better now. You get what you pay for but in this case I have played much much better courses for a third less. In fact the posted price in the pro shop was 9 dollars cheaper that what I paid because I booked on GolfNow.com. So burn me once.....I won't be back! January 28, 2013
this course does not honor the tee times This is the first course on golf now that wouldn't honor the tee time that I bought. They made us go out over 30 min later because the tee time was in the middle of a weekly blitz that they have. There shouldn't even be tee Times available on golf now if they have scheduled tournaments. There were nothing but fivesomes all around us (at least 10) and the pace was about six hours. After 2.5 hrs we made it to the 7th hole where there were 13 people including our threesome on the tee box And 10 people on the hole playing this par five. 23 people on one hole. It was unbelievable. Never book a tee time here on Fridays or Sundays after 11:30 am. You will never be able to finish January 14, 2013
great time friendly staff. course in good conditions. ranger doing his job January 10, 2013
Why make a tee time Got to the course early for a 12:45 tee time. Lots of people milling around 1st tee. Went to starter at 12:38 and was told that a skins league had priority and that my tee time would be delayed at least 1 hour. We jumped in on a gap at the 10th hole, fortunately no one cares about that either. This course gets overbooked regularly and because it is publicly owned many of the staff act as though this is your problem. Starter makes no effort to pair twosomes into foursomes to improve speed of play. Fun course but really poorly managed. December 30, 2012
