Deercroft Golf & Country Club 3.7 5 12 12
Front 9 wet. Golf course greens were very good. Course was wet from rain. Back 9 was relatively dry. April 3, 2013
course on its way back, nice greens good layout This course has as very nice layout and the greens roll very good. Not super long but I enjoyed it very much. This course had gone down hill the last few years but sounds like the owner committed to making it a very good course again. About 30 min drive from Pinehurst and even though I expected more I am glad I made the trip down. Just go there with an open mind and give it a try. You can't beat the price. March 31, 2013
Course conditions improving, especially the greens. Always enjoyed playing Deercroft since the holes are isolated from the others so you don't see anyone playing on other holes. And any time I've played it (always off season) it has not been busy. But the course conditions started going way down hill so it has been several years since last playing there. There is still room for improvement, but over-all the course is in much better shape than the last time I played it, especially the greens. I am not the straightest off the tee, so I find keeping it in play on these tree lined fairways a challenge. For the $15 bucks cart and green fee hot deal, it is definitely worth the trip from Southern Pines/Pinehurst. January 3, 2013
Great course for the money! The course was in great shape for the winter. The highlight of course conditions were the greens. They were maintained well enough to grab the ball when you hit them but were greased lightning when putting. The greens were a blast to play on! December 15, 2012
The greens are worth the price of admission. The greens on this golf course are nothing short of spectacular. They rolled fast and true and were a pleasure to play. If new management can carry the quality work they've exhibited with the green complex to the rest of the golf course it will be a regular destination for me and my group. To find as good or better puting surfaces, in our immediate area (Pinehurst vicinity) you would have to spend alot more money, alot more. Can't wait for the warmer weather to see how the rest of the physical plant fills in. December 6, 2012
Greatly improved! I played this course back in early August of 2012 and found it in dire need of improvement. On the urging of the on staff PGA professional, I returned to try out the vast improvements they communicated had been made. And I was pleasantly surprised! The greens could not have been better and it showed that they had put a lot of effort into bringing them "back from the dead". They are smooth, quick and true. A pleasure to putt on. The entire green "complex" (areas surrounding the green) on almost every hole still needs some work as there are a considerable number of "hard-pan surfaces", rocks and roots that interfere with chip and pitch shots. They have taken down enough trees so as to open up the course a bit, but not too many so as to detract from giving the course a good "viewing feel". There were many areas planted with sawgrass that greatly improved the aesthetics of the course. Some areas still showed drainage issues and even with a week's worth of dry weather, were a bit wet and muddy. This was true on some of the aprons of the greens as well. The tee boxes have been aerated and will most certainly be in tip-top shape when spring arrives and the Bermuda starts growing. The fairways were in as good a shape as they could be in for this time of year without over-seeding. All in all, I give the course 3 stars out of 5, but am sure with the efforts that are obviously being put into the course, that will most certainly go up another star in the next 12 months. My advice, is give this great layout another chance if you have written it off in the past, or try it out for a good time on a very playable course. December 4, 2012
The greens were in good shape and the new ownership has cut down many trees. The rate of play was good and the price was right Last year I played the course with my friend and found that the greens and the overall course was in rough shape. I told myself I would not play here again. A friend of mine played here in september and said the course was under new ,mangement and the has improved. I played here on Nov 2 and the greens were great and the improvements on and off the course were excellent. I WOULD PLAY HERE AGAIN !!! November 4, 2012
Nice Course Fairways are in great shape. Greens were pretty good too - lots of un-repaired divots on the greens, but that's not the courses fault. Newer owners, nice people. Will be back again. October 24, 2012
very nice bent greens, well tended. the course has a great layout and very good greens, fairways a little sparse October 19, 2012
Help support this course. If you saw my review for Whispering Woods, this could be the same. Great Staff, needs work on the fairways, roughs and carts paths. They are doing a lot of work out there and the greens are in very nice shape. They have some long holes for a short hitter like me. They do not try and take you money at the bar, very nice prices. Every time I have been there we have played the round at a 3 hr pace for two players. I wish more people would go out and support this course. We need local courses like this for a person that likes to have a fun day with the guys. ( and gals ) October 4, 2012
Deercroft Great course with a few challenging holes. Course is under renovations that will widen several of the fairways and areas around the greens. A number of trees have been removed. The cart paths are in need of repair; however, they appear to be working on those as well. Greens are in great shape and the grass is well taken care of. September 24, 2012
Great layout, but in need of much groundskeeping The pace of play is great since there are not many players on it at a time. Most players seem to be locals and members who play in large groups all at the same time daily. The greens are in poor shape as is the rough. They have been cutting down a lot of trees which was needed, but the root systems have taken over all of the cart paths, much of the rough and some of the fairways. Driving the cart on the fairway is better than on the cart paths which are broken and in many cases missing. The tees are in good shape, however, they either over-water or the drainage is bad so if there has been rain before you play, there are a good many areas that are unplayable. The ball will plug in the approaches to the greens. My advice is that, although they are working on improvements and the price is right, it is a long way to travel for this caliber of course. I expect that in a year or so, as long as they continue with planned improvements, the course will be a good golf destination. September 20, 2012
