The Lonnie Poole Golf Course is a dream come true for NC State University. The stunning layout has been designed by Arnold Palmer and the design team at Arnold Palmer Design Company (including Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson, both NC State graduates). With breathtaking views of the Raleigh skyline and the award winning Centennial Campus, the golf course has become a favorite in the golf community. The purpose of the facility is to provide a public golf course on the Centennial Campus of NC State University that serves as a venue for the men's and women's varsity golf teams.

It also facilitates turfgrass and storm water research associated with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). Likewise, the golf course serves as a teaching and training facility for the Professional Golf Management (PGM) Program in the College of Natural Resources. The course is very playable for all skill levels and a large challenge to low handicap players. We feel that you will find this course as one of the finest in the area, one of the best university facilities, and worthy of one of the premier universities in the nation.

Great Course We enjoyed our vist to LP. The staff was very friendly from the Bag drop - to the Check in - to the Starter. The course was wonderful. The GPS in the Carts was very helpful. We got a great deal on Golfnow and we look forward to coming back soon. November 10, 2014
Excellent Course was in in fantastic shape. The greens were a little quicker than usual, but that is what made it a little different from the other times I have played it. November 1, 2014
Not your average course Great course, very challenging, would be tough to walk.cart gps is best I've seen.bring your A game !! September 23, 2014
Great for the price! GolfNow had LP for $27. Couldn't pass that up. The course was in great condition. The greens were nice and fast but very true. When putting, don't play the break, because it won't break! Oh yeah, avoid the bunkers, it's real sand. September 22, 2014
Must play! Always a treat playing here. We got on late in the afternoon and was not able to play all 18 holes but I would go back anytime. Excellent experience. Not for the faint of heart! This course can (and will) eat your lunch! September 15, 2014
One and (probably) done! First of all, let me just say that I could normally not afford to play this course, but when a GolfNow offering popped up for $30/person, I jumped at it, as it's usually $60-80/round. The guys who were paired with us were much the same, as they won a round as a gift at some event, but get this - they still had to pay $25 each to share a cart. Really, NCSU? REALLY?? That being said, let's get through the obvious - the course was incredibly beautiful and pristine. Some of the vistas were breathless. The natural and native areas throughout the course are superbly placed and absolutely increased my enjoyment. The onboard gps was perfect! What lessened my enjoyment was the lack of instructions from the staff (who knew we were first-timers) - we weren't advised where to buy snacks, where to go to grab our cart, that we were paired with anyone and to wait for them. Also disappointing was the unusual number of golfers on the course with boom-boxes blasting bad country music - seems like a course ranger would occasionally meander by to check on such things but none was ever around. Overall, it was really good. Better customer service would have made it just about perfect. I'm "one and done" mostly because I'll probably never find a deal like that again. There are great golf deals out there, but NCSU obviously likes to weed out us scrubs by regularly asking a king's ransom to play Lonnie Poole. BTW - I'm a big Wolfpack fan and broke 90 on my outing. One of the best courses in the area I am a little biased as I am a member at LP. The work that has gone on to renovate the bunkers and tee boxes since May is really beginning to pay off. Not only is it a visually stunning course it is playing really well too. On the playing front there are a few holes that are suited to the bombers out there but generally it requires thought and shot shaping to score well. It takes a few rounds to get a feel for the undulations in the fairways and knowledge of good positional play. So keep coming back. September 2, 2014
Great course, overall. The course is designed amazingly, and makes you show up with your A-game. Currently, they are doing work on the course, so the conditions are a little rough in spots; but I can't wait to see the final product. The greens were punched, so it was a little rough, in that aspect. There is a touch screen GPS in each cart. that made a world of difference in my game. I never want to golf again without it! Overall, the normal rates are a little steep, considering the amount of other good-quality courses in the area; but it is absolutely worth the splurge, occasionally! August 31, 2014
