Greens I really hope Pelham can recover their greens. I know it was mid march I played but it's not looking too good for majority of their greens March 25, 2013
One of the better courses in NYC. Great facilities. I played Pelham Bay three times so far this winter and it is one of the better NYC courses in my opinion. Most of the holes are tree lined, but the fairways are pretty wide. The greens are big with lot of contours and undulations, and many of them have multiple tiers (the green on the fourth hole is a roller coaster!). There is a nice mix of different hole designs, including uphill and downhill holes, doglegs, short holes and long holes. Lots of deep bunkers. Tee boxes are nice and level. The golf carts look pretty new and the club house is really beautiful. Staff is friendly. The practice putting green is big, which is nice because some city courses don’t even have a practice green at all. The course can play very long and difficult in windy conditions. The holes near the high-point of the course are exposed to the wind. It feels like you are always playing into the wind, never with the wind at your back. Some of the Par-4’s are very long; there are four of them that are about 420 yards or more from the white tees. For a short hitter, like myself, that means I need a fairway wood to reach the green in two, even if I have a great tee shot. There are a couple of short Par-4’s that makes up for the long ones, but the course still plays longer than what the scorecard says, especially on a windy day. I think the 10th hole (an uphill 432 yard Par-4 from the white tees) should be changed to a Par-5. That would make the hole a lot more fun in my opinion. Overall this is a great course if you live in the city and don’t want to drive far. Also, in the winter, I think this is one of the best maintained courses in the area. Lastly, pace-of-play is typical for a public golf course, expect a >4.5 hr round on the weekends. March 20, 2013
Horrible conditions! Course conditions couldn't have been worse! Greens even had track marks on them! January 31, 2013
Good condition Especially being the time of year that it is,overall the course was in good condition. January 8, 2013
GOOD COURSE, WELL MAINTAIN, WIDE AND LONG FAIRWAYS ON PAR5S AND CHALLENGING PAR4S AND 3S GOOD COURSE, WELL MAINTAINED, VERY WELL MANAGED, WIDE AND LONG FAIRWAYS, CHALLENGING PAR4S AND 200YARDS PAR3S December 9, 2012
took too long to play course wet, workers all over,no ranger, pace of play bad,tee boxes bad December 5, 2012
Very good and challenging public course I really enjoy this course it has some challenging holes and is in good shape tee to green. There were two outings the day I played and I had to be squeezed in even though I had a tee time. I had to laugh at the Ny attitude so intense - which is the way I was when I lived there from 3 years old to 43 years old. Sorry dont miss that part of it love to come back and visit though October 5, 2012
The pace of play made up for the less than perfect conditions Our group played the course on a Saturday afternoon as a threesome. We were able to play at a comfortable pace (a little less than 4 hours) so that we didn't wait for shots and the group behind us never was on the same hole. The Canadian geese droppings were all over certain holes on the course and the superintendent staff came out with a border collie to chase the geese but unfortunately, the geese just found another hole to move to. The course had some interesting holes but it lacks real challenge. Had I not purchased my green fee at a discount through GolfNow, I would have felt that it was overpriced. September 24, 2012
