Sand Barrens Golf Club - West Course

Standing on the tee boxes on No. 4 of this nine, you see before you what seems like oceans of sand everywhere. But this is a par-4 (398 yards from the back and 279 from the forward) where some big hitters can actually drive the green. “But if it isn’t a perfect drive,” Mullholand says, “you’ll end up in a waste area or in a bunker or in the woods. You have to hit past a fairway bunker on the right, sandy waste on the left and on the right. It’s short, but you have to be very straight.”

The green on No. 4 is also half of our 55,000 square-foot double green that slopes sharply downhill from front to back.

Driving Directions:

From Philadelphia:
Take Route 42 to the AC Expressway, get off at Exit 7 South, proceed to the Garden State Parkway, get off at Exit 13 (Avalon-Swainton). At the end of the exit ramp make a right turn and proceed to the traffic light and make another right. Travel north on Route 9 for ½ mile, the club entrance is on the left hand side.

From Delaware:
Go over Delaware Memorial Bridge. Take Route 40 East to Route 55 South, continue on Route 55 until the end. Take Route 47 to 347 South for 15-20 miles until reaching Route 83, turn left and follow Route 83 until reaching Route 9. Turn right and travel Route 9 south for 1 mile. The club entrance is on the right hand side.

From New York and New Jersey:
Take the Garden State Parkway South to Exit 13 (Avalon-Swainton). At the end of the exit ramp make a right turn and proceed to the second traffic light (Route 9) and turn right. Travel on Route 9 North for ½ of a mile, the club entrance is on the left hand side.
