The Mattawang Golf Club of today is very true to its original layout. As was typical of course design for private clubs in the 1950’s and early 60’s, the idea was to create a challenging venue, in a natural setting, with a premium placed on shot-making skills.

The course plays to 6805 yards from the back tees, so it has plenty of length. Although often appearing wide and open, the fairways are actually quite tight and golfers quickly discover that the trees which line many of the fairways have been thoughtfully placed to penalize errant shots.

Typical of the design philosophy of the era, most of the greens are small and protected by sand traps. They have rightfully gained a reputation over the past few years as being among the best maintained putting surfaces in the state. Golfers must hit both their tee and approach shots accurately or pay the price.

Not worth the wait Played Sunday. Went out 9:30 and finished over 5 hours later. they put way too many golfers out on this course. And apparently none of the golfers in front of us knew golf etiquette September 15, 2014
Pleasant Surprise Fairways and greens in fine condition. No tricked up holes although local knowledge will help on two or three of them. Layout is old school traditional with small greens. Greens hold nicely with proper shot. Rather open so weaker players can enjoy while shot making to the smallish greens keep it interesting for the more accomplished player. Shop clerk and starter very friendly. Only criticisms are: Bunkers mostly too bare, inconsistent. More Drinking Water. Less fairway sprinkling on a Friday morning. Gas carts should be replaced when possible. Overall a fun day on a nice property. September 13, 2014
Very good course Nice course. Fairways and greens in very good condition. I highly recommend this course. September 9, 2014
Very good condition Everything worked out smoothly with the reservation, it was my first time using Golfnow. The course condition was very good for September and the greens were great. The staff was very cordial and helpful. My two guests liked Mattawang and would play there again. September 8, 2014
always solid The course was in good shape and the greens ran true. Pace of play was okay as we waited a little bit but still finished in 4.5 hours on Sunday morning. This is a tight course so it is critical to be accurate off the tee. Well worth your time to play. September 8, 2014
Fairways & Greens in good shape. Played 9 holes after work. $25 with a cart. The coarse conditions are very good considering the dry weather we've been having. Most local courses are in bad shape, some are requiring cart path only or 90 degree rule because fairways are so dry but Matawang seems to be doing a good job keeping the coarse green. I'll go back... Aside from it being a holiday, paying just under full rate and getting paired up with 2 like 6 handicapped players... I think this might have been a top 3 course for me. Pretty open, wasn't a huge fan of the tall dead grass seperating a couple of the holes ( an instantly lost ball ) ( or 3 ). Good amount of bunkers & well placed and sized water hazards to increase difficulty. Even had a staff member clean my clubs back on the cart while putting on the 18! September 2, 2014
Nice conditioned old course Course is in farm country tees, fairways,& greens were in excellent condition rough was mostly burnt out. Club house is an old outdated country club from the fifties, there is no alcohol allowed at all, not much to eat. course is flat with very little elevation changes most bunkers need sand, course is not very interesting or scenic.
