The Mattawang Golf Club of today is very true to its original layout. As was typical of course design for private clubs in the 1950’s and early 60’s, the idea was to create a challenging venue, in a natural setting, with a premium placed on shot-making skills.

The course plays to 6805 yards from the back tees, so it has plenty of length. Although often appearing wide and open, the fairways are actually quite tight and golfers quickly discover that the trees which line many of the fairways have been thoughtfully placed to penalize errant shots.

Typical of the design philosophy of the era, most of the greens are small and protected by sand traps. They have rightfully gained a reputation over the past few years as being among the best maintained putting surfaces in the state. Golfers must hit both their tee and approach shots accurately or pay the price.

Nice Sunday afternoon round My wife and I enjoyed our late afternoon round at Mattawang. There were some groups ahead of us but y wife is a beginner so the slightly slower pace was ok with us. The round was right around 4 hours which allowed us to finish prior to dark. Conditions were good and although the greens could have been quicker, they rolled fairly well. All in all, a good afternoon of Golf was enjoyed. July 27, 2015
A little off the beaten path but worth the EFFORT!!! We called the club to let them know that due to traffic coming from NY we were going to be late. The pro shop personnel replied "No Problem we will accommodate you when you arrive" As I indicated it was a little out of the main stream rural setting but worth the drive. Very friendly, course was in great condition, and we played in around 4 hours after hitting a bucket of balls on the driving range behind the club house. Congratulations on a beautiful venue and great staff!!! July 24, 2015
Course is maintained very well. overall maintainenace is godd. players do not look that deligent to repair their ball marks on the green. July 22, 2015
Good but not great This is a :good course. It starts out short but stretches out quickly. It has some par fives that really make you think, due to some well placed creeks. Some holes have narrow fairways and some are more open. The course requires a variety of shots and is more difficult than you think at the beginning. I always play it 3 or4 times a year. Give it a try I don't think you'll be disappointed. July 21, 2015
Mattawang GC I haven't played here in a few years. I found the staff quite helpful, friendly and respectful. Overall I think the course conditions have improved. Pace of play was excellent, especially for a weekend day, but that may have been because of some threatening weather forecast for the day. I would definitely go back and play again and soon. Good Value, terrible pace Good value especially twilight slots after 3 pm. Well kept course overall. Nice length and amount of challenges for the average golfer. Not too tough or long, but not as short and boring as a course like others near by. Staff is friendly yet seem to think certain things they do are normal that are a bit ridiculous to most people. Greenskeeper on 2 separate occasions was watering the green on 3rd hole short par 3 as I tee my ball up I had to wait for him to move. Only to have him continue watering 10 feet from us as we try to putt out. Sort of ridiculous on a Sunday afternoon when it is most crowded. Expect a 5 hour round on weekends no matter the size of your group in the summer. I wish they would throw 1 or 2 more minutes between tee times. But it seems the staff feels it is completely appropriate to always be 15 to 30 minutes behind schedule and have 5 or 6 groups jammed on the first 2 holes which are short par 4s. I know it seems like I am killing them here but it really is a good value and fun course. Greens are fair speed could be faster but certainly roll smooth and are true. Played here a few times and the best was after heavy rain throughout the weekend in late June...because course emptied overall not a ton of people came out and it drained really well with few low spots of standing water. Will play here consistently but try to avoid the busiest times as it can get brutal. July 13, 2015
Beautiful Greens Course is very well maintained and manicured. Friendly staff, stocked pro shop, and snacks available July 13, 2015
Great course Course was in good shape and no wait. We played 18 holes in 4 hours with no one pushing us. July 12, 2015
