Established in 1908 as the second golf club chartered in Grand Rapids, The Highlands was redesigned in 1916 by Donald Ross, one of the world's foremost golf architects. The Highlands' timeless design epitomizes the Donald Ross philosophy that "a golf course should be subtly deceptive, rather than unduly penalizing...a true test for the skilled players, yet enjoyable for golfers of all abilities." There is no better example of this philosophy and the The Highlands.

Rich in tradition, The Highlands hosted Senior PGA tournaments from 1986 to 1993. The event attracted such golf legends as Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Billy Casper, Chi-Chi Rodriguez and Lee Trevino. For the last three years, The Highlands has hosted an event featuring several active LPGA players.

The Highlands welcomes all golfers to come and enjoy this wonderful golf course, the great service in the pro shop and the outstanding amenities in the club house and lounge.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Got a great rate at Golfnow.com Nice course, nice people, but don't kid yourself, nothing like it used to be. Still nice to play. Nice tribute to my former golf mate Bill Hieble..Davenport College '66-67. November 12, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Horrible conditions . Horrible condition .Drove 1 1/2 hrs to play this course. Never again. The superintendent should be ashamed. Don't think they have run the sprinkler system all year. Rock hard and tore up. Don't waste your time. There are far better courses for the money in the Grand Rapids area. Extremely Disappointed . Rated 2 out of 5 by Very Disappointed Course was in very poor condition which is disappointing because I loved this course when I played it a few years ago. September 14, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great course for the money! Great course! Sometimes the older members or what I assume they are can bop around like they own the course. September 5, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by What happened?!?? Played the couse in June and I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. The course was packed and the pace was extremely slow but it was a nice day on a nice course so we didn't mind. The course was in HORRIBLE shape this past weekend. It looked like a different place. It's really a shame because the layout is great. If something doesn't change, this will quickly become known as one of the worst courses in the Grand Rapids area. August 31, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Highlands I haven't played there in about 2 years ,it has really gone done hill.the course used to be a 4 now a 2 at best August 28, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by This course should just close The good: The men's locker room was awesome. I could easily imagine Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus sitting in there getting their shoe shined. Very cool. The course is simply a joke. The greens were like putting on cobblestone and the fairways were about 30% dead. The tee boxes were miserable to hit from and mostly dead. The money spent on new carts w/GPS would've been better spent on updating the irrigation system (or putting one in?). Very, very disappointing round of golf and I will never go back...and discourage anyone but starting golfers from playing it as well. Dozens of better options in the area, for the same price ($23). Rated 1 out of 5 by Conditions have gone downhill. I haven't played The Highlands in a couple of years. It was nice back then but today it is horrible. Fairways have tons of dead spots and weeds. Bunkers were hard pan and haven't been trimmed. Greens were not good either. Staff is very friendly. I will not be playing here again this year. August 9, 2015
