Grand Haven Golf Club
Could be better
By that I mean I enjoyed the layout, bud didn't like the course conditions. If it was in good of conditions as some of the other coursed I played over Labor Day weekend it would be a four star. Greens were slow and bunkers were not raked that day. We played better conditioned courses for less money on this trip.

Excellent course. Challenging but not to hard. Quite and serene

Grand Haven Weekend Warrior
I get to Grand Haven on the weekends during the summer and I played this course about 20 times this year and I always look forward to the rounds. It's a great track and the best in that area.

Thought the course was ok, played for a lower rate than advertised and seem fair for the price (maybe not if I paid the rack rate).
Course was a decent tree lined course, but the rough was real sparse, need to be able to play some shots off of hard pan. I'd say about 4 really good holes (#3,#6, #16, and #18), and 3 bad holes (#2, #11, #14) the rest were average. Staff was friendly but had a couple of questions and weren't really talkative. Food was fair for the value, nothing spectacular. Had a good time though.

Grand Haven golf club
Beautiful course with it's challenging, narrow fairways and hilly greens.

This course is an absolute beauty but there was a six-some ahead of us, they played very slow, with one of the players constantly hitting 2 balls. An alleged range came by, we told him, he said he would break them up, but didn't. We also called the clubhouse (only good use for a Cell phone on the Golf Course) and again nothing was done. This really spoiled the day.

Slow is the word
Pace of play was very slow and we didn't see any rangers. Greens were slow...even our food took forever to come. Staff was nice enough but it seems like it has gone downhill from the last time I played 5 years ago. Also do not like the changes that have been made to the course.

Great course to play
I love playing Grand Haven and always try to find an excuse to get out here and play. I'm not much of a weekend golfer, so I can't speak for weekends.. but playing on weekdays is very nice and almost always a nice quick pace. The fairways are always in great shape. The only complaint that I have is that sometimes certain holes on the course can get a bit mushy from the rain, if this is a problem for you I wouldn't recommend playing this course after a storm or days worth of rain. The greens are typically in good shape, some days slower than others but nothing to complain home about.
The course is fun to play, many consider this a very difficult course.. which it is but it is certainly playable. If you're not consistent off the tee you will be in a lot of trouble all day. Very rarely will you lose balls, but due to the placement of the trees you're typically left just putting out. It can really hurt your score if you don't keep your drives down the fairway. There is not a lot of room to work with!
I find the layout of the course to be interesting, but not way above average. It's a nice course, and certainly not boring.. but at the same time it is not a course that you remember the amazing characteristics. That being said, I find the par 3s above average.
Some years are better than others in terms of mosquitoes. This year (2014) I haven't had any trouble whatsoever and didn't even bring bug spray. However, it would be a good idea to have bug spray on you just in case there are mosquitoes because if you have to buy it at the course, the prices are absolutely outrageous and it does not last long. You could easily wind up paying 10+ dollars just in bug spray.
One thing I would like to add about this course is the friendliness of the employees. It's not just a typical big smile and talking overly friendly like a waitress at a cheap restaurant, but just cases where they really go out of their way to help you out. One day, my brother took my putter out of my bag without telling me.. I didn't realize it so on hole 1 I had to putt with a driver. The starter ran me out a putter so I could finish out my round correctly. Another day, I was only planning on playing 9 holes but ended up having my best 9 of the year and the guy working stayed late and told me to finish off my round without paying any more money. They really go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed, and this is why I consider them the best course in the Great Grand Rapids/West Michigan area(along with actually being a beautiful course) Many courses act like they are doing you a favor by letting you play on their course.
All in all, course is in great condition, layout/characteristics of the course might be a bit below some of the other top notch courses in the area(yet better than others), staff is unmatched. If you can get a golfnow price at 45 or below it is a GREAT deal and well worth it. Paying the full 65 dollars that they charge outside of golfnow.. I would say play your favorite local course at that price.
