In 1805, Meriwether Lewis called the Great Falls of the Missouri "the grandest sight I had ever beheld." But that was before he and his men spent one full month hauling thousands of pounds of cargo 21 miles to portage the falls. 21 miles! His grandest sight soon became … well ...
