Hammer those plowshares into pitching wedges, Cincinnati. With nearly 150 golf courses, the rolling hills of the tri-state area never looked so green. Does that include Dry Ridge, Kentucky? You bet it does.

Cincinnati got its name from a Revolutionary War officers' club. These vets lauded George Washington as an incarnation of Cincinnatus, the ancient Roman farmer who retired to an agrarian lifestyle after the military. Many Ohioans are descendants of these first American soldiers who were paid for their military service with farmland.

The Over-the-Rhine neighborhood is one of the nation's largest historic districts. The biggest Oktoberfest in the U.S. is here, too: a testament to the German laborers who built Cincy. And don't forget the Reds, the first all-professional baseball team. With a 57-0 record in 1869, they were the Big Red Machine … before machines.
