Playing golf in the Charlottesville/Albemarle County area puts you at about 500 feet above sea level and in the eastern shadows of the dramatic Blue Ridge Mountains. After you walk 18 holes, you can walk in the footsteps of Thomas Jefferson, either at Monticello or the University of Virginia. Or maybe that's just too much walking. If so, area vineyards are casual, with vats and vats of samples ready for you to taste. The historic downtown mall is a great choice, too, for a nice, relaxing outdoor seat in this charming town.
