Prairie Highlands Golf Course

14695 S. Inverness St. Olathe, KS 66061-6806 URL:   Course Website
Ranked #29 in the Nation in the “Top 50 under $50” Category, Prairie Highlands is a diamond in the rough. Designed by well-known Kansas City golf architect Craig Schreiner and owned by Kansas City native David Francis, Prairie Highlands opened in May of 2001 and has been reaping honors ever since. It has also been ranked No. 3 among the state’s best public courses by both Golf Week and Golf Magazine and was the only Kansas City course in either Kansas or Missouri to be ranked.

The par 72, 7,100-yard golf course was designed truly with the golfer in mind. Following the traditions of the game, the course was designed to be walkable, with short distances from green to tee. Fundamental strategies and abundant shot making opportunities are complimented by pristine zoysia fairways and bent grass greens. Four tee boxes play from 7,100 yards from the back tees, to 5,100 yards from the front tees. Errant tee shots will likely find manicured rough or one of 60 strategically positioned sand bunkers, which makes saving par truly rewarding and a birdie nearly heroic. Only deft putting on subtly contoured bent grass putting greens rewards pinpoint accuracy off the tee.

Sad to see this fine track so poorly maintained Greens slow, spotty and filled with marks and rough areas. Losing many collars and transition areas. Fairways good to above average. Bunkers horrendous. Native grass areas starting to become weedatoriums. Concessions significantly overpriced. Fine walking track and we got a foursome around in 4 hours. Love the course and hoping it returns to prior prominence with aggressive maintenance program. June 21, 2015
Good course Good value through golf now, course in great shape. June 13, 2015
SLOW Quit after 6 holes it was so slow. 5:45 minute pace. Staff had a 'it is what it is' approach. June 7, 2015
Very diaappointed Having played this course in years past, I was very disappointed in the present overall condition of the course. Fairways were very rough {weeds and other grass coming up through Zoysia), tee boxes were in terrible shape, and greens had a lot of ball marks on them. In all, not very good shape. June 3, 2015
Dropped the ball BIG TIME this outing. Our threesome booked a 2:10 tee time. Being a Sunday, the course was slammed, but still they let 3 twosomes tee off right in front of us: rather than make them play in foursomes. Three holes in, there was a six -some playing in front of us. We called the pro shop and were told they were hosting a tournament and since only one person was working, they didn't have a marshall to keep play moving. Who allows six-somes AND schedules a tournament with only one person working? The response from staff: keep playing or you can get your money back. Really? June 1, 2015
Very Poor Greens Great Golf Course; Greens were in very poor shape. May 13, 2015
Nice course Plays long and lots of thick grass so keep it straight. April 30, 2015
Work Still to Do One of my favorite tracks in KC. The course needs some work. Some bunkers need to be rebuilt, green have some problems expecially 1 and 2. Not sure what they are doing with the area between the club house and the course where they have cut down all the trees. Course still plays fine just needs a little TLC. Course needs GPS and I think they are getting it but without the course is not marked very well. April 19, 2015
