Royal Kunia Country Club 3.4 5 12 12
Golf course ok, don't expect anything else Royal Kunia is a reasonably designed and laid out course. Unfortunately, when it was built, they quit before they were done. There is essentially no club house attached to this course. They have a "temporary" shack which has been there for 10 years now. The restaurant probably will be open when you get done, but don't expect much. Check in staff are usually a little cold, but the starters are good people. Driving range and putting green are located away from the area, so you need to get a cart to get there, but NOT the cart you will be using on the course, so you get to move your clubs twice. No GPS on carts, a towel probably won't be provided, but occasionally is, kind of luck of the draw or washing machine. The course itself has some interesting holes. #1 starts out as a reasonable par 5, #2 is a nasty little par 4 with water and OB, then it settles down into some mid to average par 4's. #9 is a long par 5 with water at the green. #10 maybe the easiest par 5, then some par 4s with lots of fairway traps for protection. #18 is the last par 5, reachable by a long hitter, except the 2nd shot has to carry all the way to the green over water. Maintenance is generally good, the greens are average for Oahu courses, generally a little bumpy, a little inconsistent in speed, but typical. The bottom line though is that there are several other courses within an easy drive of this one with better amenities and typically the same or even lower rates. Royal Kunia seems to pride itself in pricing that is at the top of the market without delivering top of the market product. March 25, 2013
Great course and staff. Great course and staff. We always enjoy playing here and recommend this course frequently. March 5, 2013
Over booked, Poor service T time reserved for 1:30pm, ran out of carts due to over booking. Didnt get out til 2:00, then was told the carts need to be in by 6:00pm. Starter told us we can play front nine twice so that we can get 18 holes in. We agreed, made the turn back to 1st tee, but was met by a marshall, who told us that the flags have been pulled on the front nine and we need to play the back nine. Needless to say, we were backed up, waiting roughly 3-4 minutes to hit each shot. We were met by the marshall again on the 17th green, who told us that this was the last hole we're going to play. It was 6:10pm at this time with plenty of light left. We pleaded that all we needed was 10 more minutes to put in a complete round, but was denied. VERY POOR!!!!! February 15, 2013
nice course but a little bit slow green the green was very slow and was a little bit disappointed but otherwise good though. food was good and people are kind. kind of slow tempo but it's ok during the vacation time. February 9, 2013
Great Views Very nice course, but as other reviews have stated, that course can use some attention. Greens were ok...........they rolled true but some were a bit bumpy, the rough was acceptable and fairways were were maintained. Bunkers needs some attention too. Clubhouse was a joke with the snack shack closed and no beverage girl you had to fend for yourself. Bring your own drinks and you will be fine. Friendly staff, great views. We would play there again. Great Views... Royal Kunia is the best for a great View of the ocean and diamond head... Greens needs attention but are above average... Course is very fun and challenging ...Wind blows often at this course... and in Spring it rains a little more on the west...but usually passing showers... February 4, 2013
the greens are in poor shape, bumpy and slow. the staff is very friendly and helpfull. the course is in good condition from tee to green. the greens are not in good condition. they are slow and bumpy. where ever the pin was replaced, they were not very profesionally done. over all we had a good experiance and a fun time on the course. I would not go back till the greens are improved. January 31, 2013
Fun course with excellent views I had never heard anything about this course until our driver from HiGolfGuide recommended it. It happened to be one of the courses they provided free transportation to and since we didn't have a car it was perfect. Upon arrival I was a bit skeptical because of the makeshift clubhouse and restaurant area. But as soon as we got on the first tee it didn't matter one bit. The first thing you'll notice are the dirt red bunkers they have. They're maintained very nicely and are definitely unique. The greens were above average, not too fast but very smooth. The fairways were green and in pretty good shape too. It's a pretty straight forward course with a lot of bunkers and some water. Overall, my son and I thought it was very enjoyable to play. My favorite part about the course, besides the bunkers, would have to be the views of Pearl Harbor and the city below. The facilities aren't spectacular so don't expect a whole lot, but the course was nice enough for me. I'd definitely come back. January 4, 2013
This course has great views of the island. Also the course was well maintained. This course was in great condition when i played it. The greens were in good shape. The course had enough different looks to make it interesting. The views of Pearl Harbor and Diamond Head were great. January 2, 2013
Ok, but not the best course around Royal Kunia is a decently maintained course with a reasonable difficulty level. Two of the par 5s are challenging and the other 2 give the long golfer some eagle opportunities. The par 4s are for the most part, doglegs either right or left with enough traps, gullies and water hazards to make them challenging. Depending on what day you play, the greens may or may not be very well maintained, with numerous ball marks after the weekend typical. Course amenities is where Kunia suffers. There is a "temporary" club house with a small restaurant in basically a shed/mobile home configuration. The driving and practice putting area are a fair distance from the club house and are generally only accessible by golf cart. Pricing however, is as high or higher than surrounding courses with full club houses, GPS on carts, drink service on course and other amenities Kunia does not have. Much better value for your money elsewhere, but if nothing else is available, a decent enough course, just don't expect it to be very nice at the clubhouse. December 19, 2012
A very enjoyable course. I found this course to be very enjoyable, especially for vacation play. The fairways are wide and well maintained. There is not too much rough to lose your ball in. There are a number of greenside and fairway bunkers to catch your ball if your not hitting your shots straight. The course is very scenic and I love the look of the red sand bunkers with the green fairways. The staff are very friendly and the views from the course looking out to Pearl Harbour and Diamond Head are great. We'll definitely be back, next time were on Oahu. Ron and Helen H. November 20, 2012
