Kona Country Club - Ocean Course

Book online and get discount tee times at Kona Country Club - Ocean Course

With breathtaking panoramic views of the Kona coastline, the Mountain Course has its way of attracting beginners and advanced golfers alike. It features a cool mountain setting, manicured Bermuda greens, elevated tees, numerous bunkers and three lakes. Challenge yourself on the front nine as you experience elevation changes. After reaching the crescendo, all you see is a clear blue ocean, swaying palm trees and a panoramic view from Keauhou to Kona. Take a moment on our par 3, hole #5 and #14. Both holes feature exotic drops from tee to green. Hole 14 is the highest point of the course and is the most picturesque hole. There is a waterfall surrounded by red bougainvillea and black lava rock, scenic lake and miles of ocean as far as the eye can see. The Mountain Course is enriched in Hawaiian culture. This area was a favorite playground for Hawaiian royalties known as Alii. You’ll see Hawaiian wild goats moving throughout the back nine. Golf Digest Magazine rated the Mountain Course as 4 stars and ESPN, Zagat Guide recognized it as one of the top facilities in the nation. The front nine was designed by William Bell in 1985. The back nine was completed in 1991, designed by Rodney and Nelson Wright. Surrounded by this enchanting setting, your experience on the Mountain Course will linger in your memories.

Great views, but some crazy fairways. Beautiful ocean views on the Mountain Course. The Ocean Course, driving range and restaurant are closed for refurbishment. The front nine has a couple of fairways that are entirely sloped to the ocean the entire length. Specifically the Par 5, #4 does not have a spot to drive the ball without it funneling to the sea. Same goes for your second shot. April 5, 2013
short, but very sloping fairways Greens break to the ocean! Nice course, white tees fairly short but hard to keep ball in fairways on many holes due to severe slope. Not crowded, good pace of play. excellent views of the island from the high points, interesting par threes over water. Pretty good conditionApril 2nd 2013 A good day out April 3, 2013
Great views, uneven lies and a lot of shots uphill. Short, well maintained course with plenty of challenge due to the mountain setting. March 27, 2013
Got a big discount through Golfnow. Even with discount, questionable whether it was worth it. Staff friendly and helpful. But course not good. Cart path are minimal; fairways worse than a double black diamond mogul run. Fairways and greens grasses at acceptable level but just not a quality course. Goats grazing up in the lava. Comparison appropriate. March 27, 2013
terrific views of the ocean. must be a straight-shooter! challenging holes. greens were in good shape. well-stocked pro shop. beautiful ocean views. March 24, 2013
Course layout was terrible. Cart paths were way too far away from greens and it was near impossible to hit your ball to where it didn't roll sideways Course layout was terrible. Cart paths were way too far away from greens and it was near impossible to hit your ball to where it didn't roll sideways about 50 yards. You have to be a mountain goat to play this course! course was being closed for a year to redo irrigation system We played the last day be for the cource was being closed March 17, 2013
Really LOVE this course!!! My wife and I go to the Big Island as often as we can. When we are there we stay with a friend and his wife so we have extra money to use for our golf adventures. It's a great set-up!! Last year we decided to play the Ocean Course @ Kona Country Club. We instantly fell in Love!!! The staff is friendly and helpful. The grounds are very nicely kept. We ate breakfast in the restaurant last year and the food was very good, and moderately priced too! But back to golf ... We couldn't wait to play here again this last visit! The fairways are mostly nice and wide, very well tended and green. The rough is thick Bermuda Grass (I think) and not a place you want to spend much time. The greens are tricky, but roll true and not too fast. The true wonder of the Ocean course comes when you play several holes right on the coast. It is BEAUTIFUL!!! We have been fortunate to play this course with mild breezes, and lots of sun. It is so much fun I didn't care how well, or badly I played! If you can play this course when you visit the Big Island ... DO IT!!! You'll always remember it! March 12, 2013
The Ocean course has best sea views of any course on the island. It was windy in Kohala area, so played at Kona where the conditions/weather was perfect. This Ocean course has the best ocean views on the island. Fairways are wide and generally forgiving, and the greens sizable but challenging. This is a beautiful, mature course with challenges for all levels of golfer. February 28, 2013
1st game of 4 while on Big Island We actually really enjoyed this course as there are some very nice holes on the Ocean Course. The facility may not be 1st class but once you are off the T-box it was all good ! Course was in good condition and weather was fantastic ! I would not hesitate to recommend playing this course especially for the great price on Golf Now ! February 24, 2013
Course is closing March 4 for renovations I have play Kona Country Club Ocean course many times, and I was disappointed to see the neglect. However, it is understandable since they are closing the course for renovations on March 4th. They hope to open in January, and I will go back after that. February 20, 2013
A challenging course with terrific views A challenging course, especially the greens due to the grain, the mountain/ocean effects. Wonderful views from practically every hole. February 19, 2013
Nice track, spectacular ocean holes and unique natural wonders. Highly recommended. The Ocean Course was a very pleasant surprise for my wife and me. Played during the week in light traffic giving us time to appreciate the surrounding views and unique natural features while enjoying the game. Interesting track, not too difficult, and well maintained. Played Mauna Kea, Hapuna and Kona CC and found this course the best "vacation golf value". Will definitely play again on our next visit. February 18, 2013
This course will be closed for recondtiioning in mid-March, 2013. I've played this course several times during the past 20 years. It is scenic and in decent shape, although not as good condition as in the past. We learned it will be closed for some time in mid-March, 2013 for reconditioning. It can use the attention. It is a little pricey right now, but I hope it doesn't follow the path of other expensive Hawaii courses when it comes back online. February 11, 2013
Great ocean views. Carts were very old. Hardly any breaking power.. Slow play. A ranger is needed. A starter should be on the Ocean. February 8, 2013
Enjoyable course. The Ocean course was played in great weather conditions. Just enough wind. Tee boxes were a bit beaten up but the greens were in pretty good shape and were challenging. Overall enjoyed the experience. Played with a local who gave good pointers for the course. February 7, 2013
Great value---very good layout Enjoyed a good round. Wonderful, friendly staff. Course was in excellent condition. Lots of holes with great views. Would recommend highly. February 6, 2013
Course is in great shape for as dry as it has been! We always enjoy playing this corse! The holes are challenging as they are raised greens! The flowers around the course and the view of the sea offer a great environment to play! January 27, 2013
a good course with difficult to read green. This is a 36 hole facility with an ocean 18 and a mountain 18. I found both course to be in reasonably good shape with a nice variety of shots required. The greens can be difficult to read but putt just fine. The mountain course has wonderful vistas but can seem a little unfair at times because of the slope of some of the fairways. What may seem like a good shot sometimes is not rewarded as such. The ocean course isn't as extreme and as such may be more enjoyable to play for the average golfer. One short coming is that the driving range is a little short so you are not allowed to hit your driver. The staff was friendly and after golf you should go into the club house for a beverage or snack as the vista is a wonderful place to watch the sun go down. I think the course is a little over priced but it is close to town so less driving time required and if you ask or look on golf now you can find specials. I would play this course again. January 26, 2013
Amazing Views Typical mountain course, uneven lies, beautiful views. A real challenge. Could use more cart staff. Take lots of water. January 18, 2013
Beautiful vistas The Kona CC Ocean Course is a great resort course with some of the most spectacular scenery on the Big Island. The cost is fair and the course allows for some error without over- penalizing the average player. All-in-all, a great day of golf. The course is fair and yet has some demanding shots as well. The staff was friendly and helpful and the 19th hole very accomodating. Who could ask for more? January 13, 2013
Enjoyable round in paradise... Played the Ocean course. Less ocean views than expected as mentioned by others. Good course for beginners and experienced players. Would happily play again, too many courses and too little time. December 24, 2012
Great holes along the ocean friendly cart girl, good rental clubs, let us play as a twosome December 24, 2012
more true ocean holes than some higher end ones up north island Fun to play not super challenging..course is closing in mar 2013 for a year for a spruce good decision on their part December 22, 2012
Ok Course has some nice views. Greens were in good condition but fairways need work, as do the bunkers. Staff was friendly. Called a country club but played like a public club. December 9, 2012
Too much water The Kona Country Cluib is by no means the high end resort golf course you see on the north end of the island. But, the staff is very friendly. Also, the layout takes you along the Kona coastline, with spectacular views. The only draw back I had, was they apparently watered the couse heavily, the night befor I played. Many of my tee shots landed next to a divot, in the fairway. In a couple of instances, the ball actually plugged in the fairway. Yes, I would play this course again, when I get back to Kona. The senior rate makes this course very affordable November 29, 2012
Course has great views! Well maintained course, nice views & very good rental clubs. November 27, 2012
Good old school course. Old school course. Everything including the signage appears to be from many years ago. Wonderful views. Good variety of holes. Friendly staff waiting in the 19th hole to serve a cold beer after the round. Good course, just not the best value amongst the courses on the island. November 25, 2012
Good resort course, reasonably priced. A nicely maintained ocean resort course. Fairways are generously wide on this rolling, occasionally hilly course. Greens were well maintained and would hold a good shot well. Sloping greens were fast and downhill putts made life interesting. Course yardages are hit or miss. No GPS on carts. Office staff were cordial. Starter was very friendly and helpful. November 7, 2012
Nice staff and condition Pace of play was good. It appears a lot of locals play this course and like to share their course with tourists. The Ocean course has a few holes on the ocean and provide a nice shoreline experience. October 25, 2012
