Needs work, but layout has tons of potential
Just went to Sapelo this past Sat (3/9/2013) and was truly disappointed at the shape of the course.. Def will not go back until someone assures me that the course is playable.. The layout however, has a lot of potential..

A nice coastal golf course.
Golf course is in very nice shape for the time of year. We recently had a lot of rain and the course was not very wet it has good drainage. Some of the fairways are very challenging. The greens were challenging and they look like they're maintained very well. Some of the holes have a very scenic view of the marsh land. Overall is a very nice course and I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a challenging golf course.

course was extremly wet. fairways were wet and sparce.

Beautiful and challenging
Course was in great shape and improving from the last time I was there. Each hole presents a beatiful and new challenge, as we played around the course.

Challenging course layout.
This was a very nice and challenging course particularly from the tips. The course was in very good condition for the middle of January, looking forward to returning.

Highly entertaining and a great value
Played on New Years Eve. Big Mistake!! Too many golfers without the skills set to be playing on a busy day. The course needed ranger supervision and advice that was not present.
The course itself was well maintained and has super fun greens that were mowed for playing not show. You can actually make putts here! The putts held their line and rolled very well. You won't see many lip outs due to grain, resulting from ecco mowing and water conservation that is so pervasive at too many courses. The course does not have a lot of green side bunkers and this should lead to faster play on non-holidays.
Slow play was not the fault of the course just the nature of the holiday. I would definitely recommend this course to other players as it is a very good playing course and not some unplayable show piece! Try it and have fun for a change.

Beautiful live oaks defending the course on nearly every hole.
Fairways were tight on nearly every hole, but course is beautiful if you appreciate the live oaks and spanish moss. Some great marsh holes - challenging long par 3's with tight greens and little bail out space.
Fairways were in rough shape at times, but greens and traps were in excellent condition.

Good golf in spite of the drive
Good challenge and course was in better than average shape for December. Course was being groomed as we played on a Friday.

We enjoyed ourselves very much!
Very friendly staff. Not a great time of year to judge a courses beauty or condition. We all felt the course was fair but not easy.
The greens rolled true and were not extremely fast.
We will definitely return again soon!!!!

This course has a varied, interesting layout
We enjoyed our time at Sappelo hammock. The couse layout keeps you interested, as no two holes are the same. Some holes are very challenging and unless you have played them before, expect some real surprises, especially teeing off. The greens were also challenging. Putting speed was med-fast and the balls rolled well. Some of the undulations on the greens made them extremely challenging to read, so no putt could be considered a sure thing, a careful read was called for on every putt. If playing on a warm I day advise gnat repellent. This is not a walkers course as many holes have a good distance travel to to the tees, as it is built around salt marshes and the holes are spread out. All the marshes and old oak trees with spanish moss add the the visual enjoyment of the course as well as challenge many a tee shot. We enjoyed our playing time at Sappelo Hammock Golf Course.

Beautiful area of Coastal Georgia
The course in a great location with beautiful surroundings. The course is maintained in very good condition and the people are friendly and helpful. Always enjoy playing at Sapelo Hammock.
