Saddlebrook - Saddlebrook Course
I understand that during November, Bermuda will get all brown and nasty, but this course was in worse shape than most other Bermuda courses I've played. I regularly have better experiences at military courses of all places, such as NAS Pensacola (well their course is actually pretty fantastic, but if on a low budget that course can be that good, then...). Every green had overgrown grass and rolled very slowly. Readable, but slow as molasses. The tee boxes also required mowing. The fairway grass was not clipped as tight and was not as dense as it should be. I understand it's Bermuda in November, but again, this was bad even compared to other Bermuda courses this time of year.
Saddlebrook has an insane amount of staff, you will always see 2-4 people where you only need 1-2 (pro shop, valet, starter, bag drop...It was overkill for the amount of business they had). If they're gonna maintain that much staff, they should repurpose a lot of them to greens keepers and what not, the course desperately needs the TLC.
Then just a weird thing about the place: it's a time machine. You could swear you'd been transported back to the 80s or something...I felt trapped in a Roger Moore era Bond movie, but without the villains. The facilities were in good shape and all, but it seemed as if there was an effort to maintain everything exactly as how it had been when the place opened. It felt....just weird.

Very confusing resort. Not friendly. Over priced food. Course only average. Expected much more

Traditional "northern style" course in the heart of FL.
Saddlebrook is always a fun round. Played by myself on the Saddlebrook course on a Sunday morning in 3 1/2 hours and was not rushing.
The greens were in excellent shape, and rolling fast and true. The bunkers were a little inconsistent, but that is pretty normal for Florida.
The staff was very friendly as usual, and went out of their way to thank me for playing their course.
Be advised, if you have not played here before, you will have to valet your car. Get your ticket validated in the pro shop.

Went out as a single on a Sunday morning. Sat behind a twosome for 9 holes, but after they quit two foursomes let me through on 10 and no-one else on the course.
Greens were so-so. Some were perfect, others had some dead grass, but still not bad. Overall 7/10. Fairways were 8/10, teeboxes 6/10 and traps 7/10.
It is a bit hard to find your "normal" tees, as it is 6,500 from the back, but only a par 70. 6,000 from the whites par 70 would have been too short, so I was stuck in the middle and decided to play the back. Still, it's playable from there (I'm an 8).
Very much a local knowledge course, so if you are playing without a skycaddie, etc., or someone who knows it, you will be in trouble as this course is about the driving. If you can keep it in the fairway or just off, you'll do fine because 2nd shots will generally be short. Several drives from the back tees however have to be essentially straight for 100 yards+ until you clear the chutes of trees.
Staff was overall pleasant. Range is bad - hitting area was so-so, balls were bad and wet and muddy and it hasn't rained in 2 weeks. Plus, balls are $5??? Really? OK for me because I had a deal time, but if I was paying over $100 I'd be less than thrilled.
Also, they need more signs directing you around to the range, first tee, 10th tee, etc. I got lost twice.
Overall, got it for $48 on GN so was a good deal. No way I'd pay regular price to play here. Also, you have to valet your car, etc., so plan on an additional $20 in tips for the numerous people you'll have to take care of coming in and going out.

Went as a single. I was paired up with 2 other singles which was great. I do not like playing alone.
Course was in good shape. Still recovering from extensive rain. The 90 degree rule was in effect for all but 2 holes which is not a big deal.
Greens were fast but not too fast and in great shape.
I would definitely recommend to others.

I truly enjoyed playing a round at Saddlebrook. The course was in terrific shape but also very challenging. There is water or some type of hazards around every hole but the fairway's are fairly wide so you have good chances for good ball placement for second and third shots. Overall a great place for a beginner such as myself or more experienced golfers looking for a challenge.

Great, enjoyable experience even in bad weather
We played the Saddlebrook course ( original course) after a 12 hour rain. The course was drenched, cart path only throughout, but the greens were great and the course generally held up nicely.
BUT, avoid buying any food or beverage. $8 for a beer and this does not include a tip to server. Outrageous!
Good golfing experience, but drink water or bring your own refreshment.
