Crescent Oaks Country Club
When conditions are wet, stick to the back nine
Skies were particularly ominous when I teed off around 2pm, but I took a chance and it certainly paid off. The young lady working the Pro Shop told me to start on #10 and that actually proved to be a real plus because posted signs already showed that at least three holes on the traditional front side were cart path only and I'm sure conditions were only worsened by the steady rainfall. While #10 thru #18 were definitely soggy and put more than a little mud on the ball, I actually played that side twice because there was nobody else out there with me and was finished in two hours just as the next rainstorm closed in. Crescent Oaks is one of those properties where playing blue tees is not quite the challenge it is at other properties (as it does not even reach 6000 yards), but there are three other sets of tees further back depending on how much you want to bite off. There are plenty of fairway bunkers on the back nine that must be accounted for and the tee shot on the Par 3 11th hole just always seems to play at least 1 1/2 clubs longer even if there is no tangible wind in your face. Honestly, I have as little interaction with employees at this property than I do anywhere in the Tampa Bay Area. So, if you're hung up on bag service, starters, beverage carts and player assistants, please leave Crescent Oaks well enough alone for people like me who don't care about those things and just want to hit golf shots for a couple hours and then get on with the rest of our day.

greens were slow, but most courses have slow greens in the tampa bay area. left all my putts short, except for the three I made for birdie. front 9 seemed a bit harder than the back. #1 is a tough starting hole.

Great round, great course
This was my 2nd visit and it was great. The young lady who checked us in was bright and cheerful and it just carried on great from there.
We saw dear on 3 holes just standing and grazing.
I will be back and thank you

Great place to play
Greens were punched about three to four weeks ago and have returned to good summer condition. Some of the fairways were spotty but were playable for the most part. This is one of my favorite courses to play year round. Summer is always a challenge for most Florida courses, but these folks keep it in above average condition.
As a plus the staff are very player friendly.

Update 11 June 14
I last played this course two months ago and the greens were almost lost. Today I'd say they are OK. Appeared to be airated a week ago or so and are growing in pretty nice. Good course for the 3 PM hotdeal price. When checking in I've seen the same guy quite a few times and he always asks what's the GOLFNOW price. I tell him the truth and ask him if I'm paying too much. Nomrally I think I'm getting a great deal. $12 today, how can that be beat?

Good enough to bring me back a second time
First visit to this property and clearly it is the best of the public courses on that stretch of road. While there was nothing really special about the layout itself, there's enough in the course design to keep things interesting. One hole may have a bunker in a key spot off the tee, another may have a forced carry over water to the green and certainly #12 has an enormous tree down the left side of the fairway that must be respected or there is no chance to reach the green in regulation. According to the staff member I spoke to before going out, the course had been punched about three weeks ago and greens were above average. A number of tee boxes and some areas of the fairways were pretty scorched so there weren't many pristine hitting lies on approach shots. Maybe it was just my luck, but it seemed like every other player out there with me on this particular day was exceptionally fast. There were a number of singles, but usually I do not even play a full 18 in an hour and 45 minutes. Perhaps everyone was just in a hurry to beat the rain, which threatened all afternoon but held off until I was on the road home. Just keep in mind that if you do play on a weekday afternoon, leaving after 5pm and turning left our of the gate is next to impossible with all the rush hour traffic. That was literally the ONLY time that I sat and waited at Crescent Oaks.
