Great course for the value cheapest rates in the county. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Course is very forgiving for the average golfer. links style wide fairways and big greens. course is getting new greens in a few months. Cant wait to play after greens put in. April 7, 2015
What Happened To St. James Golf Course I'm a year round resident of Jupiter and play golf 4-5 times a week. I was at St James golfing on Friday with some friends who spend winter in a house they own there. I hadn't played the course in a couple years and there has been a drastic change for the worst involving the condition of the golf course. I showed up 45 minutes early for our mid-morning tee time. There was no one to be found at the bag drop, so after looking for someone in the cart shed I just stuck my bag on a cart and parked. I went inside to pay and asked whether there was someone out there that needed my cart number. The person behind the desk laughed and apologized that no one was out there, then yelled to a guy sitting at a table with a woman flirting, letting him know that he needed to get back outside. I paid and went out to the cart, again waited for the guy to come out to get me my bucket of balls. He never came so I went into the cart shed to and got a bucket of balls myself and went to the range. The range was in good condition, but the practice green was absolutely horrible with holes, bumps, and what looked look a nasty fungus attack or severe sun damage. The fairways on the course were covered in weeds that had been mowed down to fairway level, but it wasn't golf course grass and very difficult to hit off of as there was no cushion and plenty of bald spots. Lots of brown spots and normal yard grass. The greens on every hole were in very bad shape, On most greens the sand, fungus, weeds and holes (dead spots) had more real estate than whatever grass was left there. They were just impossible to play. We had to institute a 2 putt ruling since the greens were unplayable. When we finished I went into the club house and the woman at the concession was very nice, explaining that they would be replacing the greens at some point in the future. When I asked about the fairways someone mentioned that they had let go the greens keeper some time ago and the course had been going downhill ever since. Its in the worst shape of any course that I have played in the past 20 years in Florida. The couple we were visiting that lives in St James was embarrassed by the condition of the course. They also mentioned that the course staff tells them every year that they are getting new greens but it never happens. They also mentioned that the course was up for sale and out of money. So for what its worth, it looks like this course could be on its way out. A few years ago it was in very good shape and a joy to play. The layout is very good and it was previously a fun course to play; that said, in its current condition, I would strongly recommend not bothering to waste your time and money. There are just too many good courses to play in the area for the same price, sadly with the condition its in now its more like playing in a cow field. As for the cart guy, he was a bit rude, as we were leaving he asked me if I wanted to put the clubs in the car since I had gotten them out 5 hours earlier without his help. I play a lot of golf in the area, Florida Club, Champions Course, PGA, Medalist, Lost Lake, to name a few...never have I pulled up and there is no one there and I've certainly never gotten the comments I got from this cart guy at any of those courses. Last Word: If you are looking for a good course to play, Keep looking, this course in practically in disrepair. There are much better courses to play for your money. RIP St James. April 6, 2015
St. James on a quiet thursday morning This is basic fairly flat course not difficult for an average player. There is no shade, no big trees, a few water hazards. I would not want to be out there on a hot day as one might get a little fried, April 5, 2015
Forget this course This is the worst course anyplace around. I would recommend that you pay someplace else. March 31, 2015
Firt TIme Back The fairways were not in good shape and the greens were terrible. Lots of weeds, dead spots, sparse cover and not a good experience all around. Told by the cart man that they are working on new greens. Should have been told when we checked in and offered a discount for the poor playing conditions. Probably would have gone elsewhere. Great course looking forward to new greens this place will be special when they install the new greens in June I love the wide-open fairways you can stand up and hit driver without sweating it and have a lot of fun. March 23, 2015
Course was in disappointing condition There was some pretty inconsistent mowing on both greens and fairways. The entire course was in only fair condition, and looked like it needed water, or something, despite having at least average rain lately. It will be some time before I try it again. March 17, 2015
Green with very little grass And bumpy. Fairways not much grass either, no cushion under ball. Not worth what they are asking. March 14, 2015
