Heron Bay was formerly TPC at Heron Bay, host of the Honda Classic until 2002. The course was designed by Mark McCumber and opened in 1996 "to challenge and entertain golfers of all skill levels, from amateur to the world's greatest golfers." The course features gently rolling terrain, a network of lakes, over 100 bunkers, multi-tiered tees and greens, and perfectly manicured open fairways. The course is young, so trees are scarce, although hundreds of trees were planted in 1998 and 3 1/2 acres of bunkers were removed to make the course more playable for the non-tour player. Wind is still the biggest challenge at Heron Bay.

The layout of the land at Heron Bay--210 acres of flat, arid and treeless property on the edge of the Florida Everglades--made for a challenging design. With 5 sets of tees, just be sure to choose the right set for your skill level and don't be afraid to leave the driver in the bag. Heron Bay has a lighted driving range open every day until 10pm

great course, always a challenge great setup,a lot of fairway bunkers, not much water January 23, 2015
Sands of Time and $$ if you like the sand, this is your course, great value @ 29.00. that was the golf now rate, and is quite the deal, would prob even be good deal up to around $50.00, fairways were average, and greens ran true, enjoyable time, even in the sand January 21, 2015
Course overview This was my second time playing this course. My first experience was wonderful. The layout is great. I was dissappointed in the course condition. It has deteriorated from 4.3 to 3.7. Would only recommend if the price was right. However if the course condition can get back to where it should be, it would be highly recommend. The other issue was very slow play due to no marshals, 4:55 mins too slow. January 21, 2015
The course was in good shape but. ........ The course was in good shape but our cart died on the fourth hole. Had to wait for a replacement as others played through. Unacceptable. January 21, 2015
good value Course built for tour events, a bit run down since, but still great value. Only annoyance was a members 5-some few groups ahead of us which made it a 4:45 round. January 20, 2015
mostly in good shape Facility and course is coming around shape wise. Pace of play was good, greens were rolling well...not lightning fast but adequate. However, it would be nice is the fairway bunkers were groomed by maintenance. Footprints and uneven lies everywhere. Needless to say that nobody else playing rakes their bunker play either. Good Layout, Lots of Sand This was my first time playing Heron Bay. Fairways were generously wide. An overabundance of sand bunkers dominates this course. There are some variances in the quality and maintenance of bunkers. My overall impression of this course was that the tee boxes, fairways, and rough were maintained at a disappointing standard. Even so, this is a challenging course that requires you to think out your shots (take the sand out of play) and be very accurate as you attack the greens (surrounded by sand). I would definitely play this course again but next time try to place my shots more carefully. With some TLC this course could look like a PGA championship course. January 18, 2015
Course was in good shape Some of the bunkers could use some attention. Had an uninvited guest at 18 tee (raccoon) looking for food. January 18, 2015
