Meadowbrook Golf Club

Meadowbrook Golf Club

Once an Indian Reservation is now one of the most unusual, affordable and challenging championship golf courses in North Central Florida. Meadowbrook Golf Club is not your typical Florida golf course, nothing flat or boring about this layout. It's rolling hills, tree lined fairways and running streams create an atmosphere that almost suggests you are in the North Carolina Mountains rather than ten minutes from downtown Gainesville.

Designed by world renowned golf course architect Steve Smyers, Meadowbrook has the distinction of being the first course he built. Smyers kept nature in mind while routing the course by leaving natural ponds, streams and valleys as obstacles. In fact, Golf Digest ranked Meadowbrook as the best built course in North Florida in 1987. Adding to this natural beauty the course is also teeming with wildlife including cranes, foxes and hawks.

This place could be great. This course has a nice setup. There are twists and turns. Some great elevation changes. There are some really tight fairways which require placement over distance. It was a really fun day. The negative side is they could do more for the greens and fairways. The greens were playable but had places that needed attention. The fairways had places of bare ground which could be addressed. There were several fairways that had leaves everywhere which made finding a your ball challenging. That being said it was fun and i will definitely play it again. January 13, 2013
Worst course in Alachua County, maybe even in Florida. Greens had large depressions, weeds, and bare spots. Fairways had weeds & dirt patches. Teeing ground was uneven, overgrown, and dirt patches. Very obvious that 0$ is spent on golf course. Great layout, good location, tons of potential. I hope changes are made soon. November 2, 2012
beautiful day Beautiful day, course was not in the best shape, the greens were weedy October 22, 2012
A course to avoid. The number of weeds seems roughly equal to the number of grass blades. However, both the weeds and the grass are mowed. Many bare sanded spots in the fairways and on greens. Lots of standing water covered with green slime. Paved cart paths are frequently broken or buckled, making the cart path ride rough going. Best thing about the course: a friendly and helpful staff both in the pro shop and on the course. That staff deserves a better course to work on. October 11, 2012
So few options in Gainesville.. This course is what it is, as far as golf in Gainesville is concerned. I've played this course dozens of times over the past few years and it's never going to get any better. Great for short game practice; you'll never really need more than a 5 iron to play the course (I'm a low handicap). Greens are slow and furry at best, sandy at worst. The only way to play this course is through a Golf Now deal, because the course is grossly over-priced. However, this is the nature of the beast in Gainesville. There are just so few options to play golf in Gainesville, and because of that, they can charge whatever they wish, no matter what conditions of the course are. October 5, 2012
Meadowbrook... I played Meadowbrook a ton when I was in high school/college just under 20 years ago - went back to Gainesville for a visit and tried to play. Granted the course was soaked due to a ton of rain but the conditions would not have been much better if it was dry... Some of the fairways were barely grass at all... It didn't really live up to my memories of the place - probably is just a good place for the senior citizen residents of that area to go hack around... September 20, 2012
