Dr. Jekyll/ Mr. Hyde type of course---front nine in a meadow, back nine with narrow fairways and lots of trees.
Interesting layout, but one that needs to be played more than once to avoid unpleasant surprises. Great place to practice both links and mountain style golf. If you tend to spray your shots, bring lots of golf balls.

Fantastic scenery.some tough holes.
The course was very, very wet. Almsot marsh like in some places. We try to play there at least once a year. It was in much better shape in previous years. The people in the pro shop and restaurant are always so friendly and helpful.

2nd nine more challenging but intereting and fun. Very friendy and helpful staff. We plan on returning again soon.

Management must not be paying attention to the operation.
The staff did not represent the course well. Rude, inattentive and hassled our foursome through out the round. After the round the staff were still awful in the club house and bar. We won't be back.

A Mountain to Meadow jewel
The Northstar golf course is is a course of two faces. The front nine takes you out into the meadows with just a flavor of Alpine trees while the back nine is target oriented mountain golf.
Just when you think the course offers you a blessing in the form of flat to gently undulating holes with great views of the Truckee meadows and basin, you hit the 10th hole.
From there, the difficulty is magnified as the tall pines line the fairways and undulations turn into something much greater.
I have always found the back nine to be a great measure of how good a golfer's game is. Play the back nine at bogey level and you are a better player... The lower the stronger a player you are.
