Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Courses - Bayonet Course

Named after the Army's 7th Infantry Division - the first major unit to occupy Fort Ord, as well as the last. The famed Light Fighters (nicknamed the "Bayonet Division") marched for the last time during inactivation ceremonies in 1993 as part of the Base Realignment and Closure Act (BRAC).

With over 7,094 yards of oak and cypress-lined fairways, Bayonet Golf Course was designed in 1954 by General Robert McClure, the Commanding Officer of the post at that time. Gen. McClure, a left-handed golfer with a severe slice, designed the course to fit his game. This is evidenced by holes #11-15, a series of sharp doglegs, widely known as "Combat Corner," interrupted only by a 215-yard uphill par 3. Notoriously known for its magnificently manicured, long, and narrow fairways, Bayonet is one tough, but rewarding 18-hole adventure. With four sets of tees, the course is a par 72, with a slope of 138 and a rating of 75.3.

First time at Blackhorse Novice golfer but we enjoyed the experience. Nice golf course, yet seemed to lack water features( yet there is a drought) and some sort of "nice" ambiance. It was nice though. Probably will chose another course next time for variation. September 16, 2014
Good times Pay group just down from Oregon, Washington said if they new the courses were this good would have come here for a week. Great value, conditions. Course had over 500 players yesterday with a collegiate tournament taking place. Never a slow down to interrupt our flow. Just a great day. September 14, 2014
This is a real nice course Bayonet is a wonderful golf course, it has everything. Trees, bunkers, length and views with the course made us feel just great. I recommend this course to friends. September 13, 2014
Highly maintained and challenging. The course was being maintained by a large crew of landscapers, while I played which was a distraction at times. Nonetheless. Conditions were great and the ball mostly sat high in the grass roughs or on the short cut fairways. 137 slope difficulty made a good challenge. September 13, 2014
Great course Wow!! What a gem and very reasonable. Great placement of bunkers to bring out your "A" game. You need to think a bit about club selection. I played the Bayonet course and can't wait to come back and try Black Horse. I play usually at 4500 feet above sea level, so had to adjust a bit for the heavy coastal air, which just adds to the challenge. I highly recommend this course to anyone visiting the Monterey Bay. Wonderful Course The course was a great value for the price. The course is very well maintained. The rolling greens made putting very challenging but fair. Stay below the holes because downhill putts seem be on the order of a Stimp meter 20! Though we had to wait on a slower group, we still manged to play in 4:25 September 12, 2014
Exceptional Experience This course is simply the best golf experience in Monterey for the value and quality for the round. It is also run exceptionally well by the staff and the course maintainence will keep you coming back for more. I highly recommend both courses. September 12, 2014
Epic American golf This is a great American course. Long and accurate off the tee is key. It is a beautiful course to look at from any angle. I like it better than the Olympic Club. Greens roll true and are very fair. They allow you to attack flag sticks from a good fairway position. Bad shots are penalized but it's not a two stroke lost ball death sentence like so many modern fake links courses are now. My only negative is holes 11 and 12. The sharp left dog legs don't match the rest of the course. 12 needs a larger landing area. September 12, 2014

A special note to our golfers: you may not have come for the food, but you certainly will appreciate it. The Bayonet Bar and Grill cooks up exceptionally tasty meals for you to enjoy in the clubhouse or on the outdoor terrace when you're in need of a rest. Or you can simply order deli style sandwiches to take with you.

In addition to our dining services, we offer roaming hospitality carts with beverages and snacks for your convenience while you play. Our talented catering staff can also prepare a formidable spread for larger corporate or tournament groups. Complete catering menus are available upon request.
