Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Courses - Bayonet Course

Named after the Army's 7th Infantry Division - the first major unit to occupy Fort Ord, as well as the last. The famed Light Fighters (nicknamed the "Bayonet Division") marched for the last time during inactivation ceremonies in 1993 as part of the Base Realignment and Closure Act (BRAC).

With over 7,094 yards of oak and cypress-lined fairways, Bayonet Golf Course was designed in 1954 by General Robert McClure, the Commanding Officer of the post at that time. Gen. McClure, a left-handed golfer with a severe slice, designed the course to fit his game. This is evidenced by holes #11-15, a series of sharp doglegs, widely known as "Combat Corner," interrupted only by a 215-yard uphill par 3. Notoriously known for its magnificently manicured, long, and narrow fairways, Bayonet is one tough, but rewarding 18-hole adventure. With four sets of tees, the course is a par 72, with a slope of 138 and a rating of 75.3.

Excellent It was, is beautiful there and everything was perfect. Thx July 25, 2014
outstanding day. Blackhorse was excellent. The course was great, staff was outstanding, and it was a great value with the discount from golf now. Excellent day on the course. July 23, 2014
Wonderful Experience Played Bayonnet for third time and better than ever. Greens rolled great, though a little slow. Bunkers in good shape and fairways excellent. Rough is thick but reasonable. Best of all is the price - $59 at prime time. July 23, 2014
Ft Ord - at last I have wanted to play the Ft. Ord courses for years and finally got a chance in July on a golf vacation to the Monterey Peninsula. These two courses were a good change (and a lot less expensive) than Pebble Beach and The Links at Spanish Bay - and a good contrast from the ocean side links to the tree lined fairways. Played 36 holes - the Bayonet first - and got teamed with another twosome that helped pace of play. In the afternoon, we went out alone and pretty much had the course to ourselves until the very end. Two good challenges, fairly tight, tree-lined fairways, fantastic weather and not much wind up on the hill overlooking Monterey Bay. July 22, 2014
Golfer's Comeback Trail This was first full golf round my husband played since shoulder surgery several months ago. It was a special round, therefore, and Bayonet was a special venue. It offered challenges but certainly fair with glimpses of pretty scenery and staffed by very friendly people. Only the weather could have been better but is beyond anyone's control. It is our third round at Bayonet in recent years. We look forward to another. July 22, 2014
Beautiful! Felt like I stole that round away for the price on Golf Now! Very nice, well kept, beautiful course. I hope that players remember to fix their divots and ball marks on greens. Groundskeepers can't keep up with all of them. Will definitely go back again! July 22, 2014
Wow. The course and the vistas and 1/3 the price of Pebble Course is in great shape despite the drought. Greens are fast and honest, fairways require you to think before you pull out the Driver. Great course, wish I had played it when I lived here 20 plus years ago. July 21, 2014
Another wonderful day at Bayonet Perfect weather and the course and staff were excellent as always. July 21, 2014

A special note to our golfers: you may not have come for the food, but you certainly will appreciate it. The Bayonet Bar and Grill cooks up exceptionally tasty meals for you to enjoy in the clubhouse or on the outdoor terrace when you're in need of a rest. Or you can simply order deli style sandwiches to take with you.

In addition to our dining services, we offer roaming hospitality carts with beverages and snacks for your convenience while you play. Our talented catering staff can also prepare a formidable spread for larger corporate or tournament groups. Complete catering menus are available upon request.
