Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Courses - Bayonet Course

Named after the Army's 7th Infantry Division - the first major unit to occupy Fort Ord, as well as the last. The famed Light Fighters (nicknamed the "Bayonet Division") marched for the last time during inactivation ceremonies in 1993 as part of the Base Realignment and Closure Act (BRAC).

With over 7,094 yards of oak and cypress-lined fairways, Bayonet Golf Course was designed in 1954 by General Robert McClure, the Commanding Officer of the post at that time. Gen. McClure, a left-handed golfer with a severe slice, designed the course to fit his game. This is evidenced by holes #11-15, a series of sharp doglegs, widely known as "Combat Corner," interrupted only by a 215-yard uphill par 3. Notoriously known for its magnificently manicured, long, and narrow fairways, Bayonet is one tough, but rewarding 18-hole adventure. With four sets of tees, the course is a par 72, with a slope of 138 and a rating of 75.3.

This course is in great shape Beautiful day and the course was in perfect shape. Greens are really tough with a lot of undulation. Didn't lose a ball either. Lots of twosomes and we were behind a slow pair, had to wait on most holes. October 14, 2014
Course was very challenging for the price. Excellent, would recommend this to all my friends, I will be coming back October 11, 2014
BLACK HORSE ADVENTURE Course is in very good conditon. The greens are treacherous. If you are going to play this course, you better bring your "A" game. Great experience. October 9, 2014
WOW Very tuff greens and don't hold approach shots and ball rolls off and....... October 7, 2014
Baffled at Blackhorse Beware when booking!!! Get the facts first. we booked an early tee time of 7:20 to squeeze in a quick round. Staff in golf shop made no mention of a tournament, but the starter asked us to play slow after we checked in and paid in full, as they were going to stuff a scramble tournament in front of us at 10am. He explained the scramble would start on holes 10-18, we started on #1. We finished the front in 1.5 hrs and the groups in front of us were playing quickly, and then the parade started At 9am instead of the 10am as we were told. 2.75 hrs to finish the back even after the two groups in front of us quit around hole 12-13. After finishing we approached the shop staff to let them know they should have mentioned this on the booking site or when we checked in, or given us a different option to play Bayonet. they had only a half hearted apology to give. Worst experience at this course by far. Stuffing slow playing events in front of the early birds was not a good thing. Maybe having better communication would have resulted in a better solution. Too slow Afternoon tee off was stacking up for a 5 hr round.. Left after 12 holes. Totally unacceptable. October 4, 2014
Good test of golf Both courses are in great shape. Greens rolled at about 11 on the stimp and were really true. The Bayonet is a very challenging course . October 4, 2014
Wonderful!!! This track is very challenging, even from the blue tees!! Black would be a true test!! Great views, greens in great condition....but you better be on the right shelf!! Bunkers could have been fluffed a bit better, as the watering made the sand a bit heavy. Yes, I was in there once or twice!!! Will play again on my next visit!! September 30, 2014

In addition to our dining services, we offer roaming hospitality carts with beverages and snacks for your convenience while you play. Our talented catering staff can also prepare a formidable spread for larger corporate or tournament groups. Complete catering menus are available upon request.
