Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Courses - Bayonet Course

Named after the Army's 7th Infantry Division - the first major unit to occupy Fort Ord, as well as the last. The famed Light Fighters (nicknamed the "Bayonet Division") marched for the last time during inactivation ceremonies in 1993 as part of the Base Realignment and Closure Act (BRAC).

With over 7,094 yards of oak and cypress-lined fairways, Bayonet Golf Course was designed in 1954 by General Robert McClure, the Commanding Officer of the post at that time. Gen. McClure, a left-handed golfer with a severe slice, designed the course to fit his game. This is evidenced by holes #11-15, a series of sharp doglegs, widely known as "Combat Corner," interrupted only by a 215-yard uphill par 3. Notoriously known for its magnificently manicured, long, and narrow fairways, Bayonet is one tough, but rewarding 18-hole adventure. With four sets of tees, the course is a par 72, with a slope of 138 and a rating of 75.3.

Must play! The course was in fantastic shape & we never saw the groups in front of us or behind us all day. They don't let you tee off on the first hole until the group in front has reached the green. The course is well worth an 85.00 green fee and if you can play it for less then it's a bargain. Don't hesitate to play either course here. You'll be glad you did. April 10, 2014
Among the best in Monterey Bay I've been a resident of Monterey Bay for almost 10 years. And unbelievably, I just played Bayonet for the very first time. It definitely lives up to it's reputation as being one of the best in Monterey Bay. But to me, what makes or breaks a pleasant golf experience is the staff running it. I dealt with Patrick over the phone and with Dillon over the counter. Both were both very pleasant and a pleasure to deal with. Having been a golf course owner in SC before moving to CA, I believe that a competent staff is equally important to a golf course condition, layout & maintenance. Would highly recommend this golf course. April 7, 2014
Great course. Super challenging greens. Amazing condition. I love B&B. Have probably played here a dozen or so times. The course is always in perfect condition. The greens are very hard, but role true. Yesterday they were insanely fast tho which made putts borderline unmanageable from outside of 10ft with the amount of break on Blackhorse. The pace yesterday was a bit absurd however. It took us over 5 hours to play a round as a threesome and we averaged a 2-5min wait per shot. Really hard to get in a rhythm. Weather was perfect. Staff is amazing. And I'll be back again.. I think I'll just stick to Mon-Thurs play from now on. March 29, 2014
Sweet track Great course. Greens were firm and fast and required good shots to hold the green. Don't worry about these reviews saying the greens were too difficult to putt. It was like playing a tour course with a tour set up. Super fun. Couldn't recommend this course anymore. March 28, 2014
A must play Monterey course.. Great day, great golf and superb weather. Greens can be fast, but fair...some great views. Course is well kept...can be foggy in the early morning but burns off fairly tends to be calmer in the mornings. March 24, 2014
Excellent Value for Your Money Booked on Golfnow for Black Horse and got a great deal. The staff were friendly and the course conditions were immaculate. Loved the difficulty level - some holes were pretty difficult and some fun and easy. Will return again to play and definitely recommend ! March 23, 2014
A stand out golf course in any other place Wow! This is a real gem of a course. The conditions were superb with carpet like fairways, smooth greens, great weather, and great bunkers. Narrow fairways were a challenge, but rewarded with good looks to the flags. The flags were put in tucked positions, but were still accessible. I would definitely be happy playing this and Black Horse on my next stay to Monterey. March 21, 2014
They made me do this This is seriously awesome course for the price. The online reservation is irritating and bush league. March 21, 2014
