Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Courses - Bayonet Course

Named after the Army's 7th Infantry Division - the first major unit to occupy Fort Ord, as well as the last. The famed Light Fighters (nicknamed the "Bayonet Division") marched for the last time during inactivation ceremonies in 1993 as part of the Base Realignment and Closure Act (BRAC).

With over 7,094 yards of oak and cypress-lined fairways, Bayonet Golf Course was designed in 1954 by General Robert McClure, the Commanding Officer of the post at that time. Gen. McClure, a left-handed golfer with a severe slice, designed the course to fit his game. This is evidenced by holes #11-15, a series of sharp doglegs, widely known as "Combat Corner," interrupted only by a 215-yard uphill par 3. Notoriously known for its magnificently manicured, long, and narrow fairways, Bayonet is one tough, but rewarding 18-hole adventure. With four sets of tees, the course is a par 72, with a slope of 138 and a rating of 75.3.

Brutal Extremely difficult course, some very narrow fairways. When finished you know what a pro must go through, without the advantage of hitting like one! The restaurant was really good. Going to take my wife sometime! August 28, 2014
Great course It was a really nice course. Got paired up with a slow person, but overall it was great! Great greens, fairways, and features. August 25, 2014
Great course Well maintained course. Highly recommended course. August 25, 2014
Unbelievable Love the hot deal, 25 beans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! August 20, 2014
Awesome price for what you get My overall experience was awesome. The course was well maintained... A little damp in some spots but I can't complain. Especially due to the fact other courses are dried out due to the drought. The greens were rolling true and fast. One of the greens (hole 1) was lighting fast. The course was well manicured and meticulously maintained. I didn't eat at the restaurant this time however I had their food before and it was very good. I don't recall anything super special about the menu but typical food (burgers/sandwiches) were quality. It hit the spot after a good day of golf. The pro shop is well stocked and the staff were nice. The price of the round for what you get was awesome. The price was the main reason I drove 1.5 hours to play this course. August 19, 2014
Bring your "A" game One of my favorite courses on the Monterey Peninsula. Courses recently underwent a major upgrade. Not an easy course but still playable. Beautiful views. This course is as nice as many on the Peninsula (and better than most). Put this one of your list when you are near Monterey, CA. August 16, 2014
A course for everyone Black Horse and Bayonet are both wonderful courses. They have multiple tees which make them both challenging and accessible for all golfers. Our 4some (friends) at Black Horse had one blue tee and 3 white tee players. We all started Blues, but realized we would be hitting woods to the green too often, so 3 of us switched to white. A good time was had by all. The Blue tee player had plyed Bayonet last week from the Blacks. He is a confirmed blue tee-er from now on. I find Black Horse views more sidnificat tha Bayonet. Otherwise both fun 6 to 5 pick-em. August 16, 2014
Fast greens, clean fairways It was nice to see that all divots & ball marks were repaired. That is the difference between Military & Civilian courses. Respect for the ground you are playing on. Great course!! August 15, 2014

A special note to our golfers: you may not have come for the food, but you certainly will appreciate it. The Bayonet Bar and Grill cooks up exceptionally tasty meals for you to enjoy in the clubhouse or on the outdoor terrace when you're in need of a rest. Or you can simply order deli style sandwiches to take with you.

In addition to our dining services, we offer roaming hospitality carts with beverages and snacks for your convenience while you play. Our talented catering staff can also prepare a formidable spread for larger corporate or tournament groups. Complete catering menus are available upon request.
