Talega Golf Course Review I have played this course many times and loved it because of the great condition it was always in. I drive down from Long Beach, CA to play it. The tee boxes were terrible, they over water the course and there is mud spots everywhere. The fairways are burnt out. The only good thing i can say the greens were in great shape. This is not a $90 dollar golf course anymore. More like a $60 dollar on weekends if that. September 29, 2014
Birdie Excellent service but wedding party took over entire bar area. Pace of play was good at 4:20. Course was a little dry due to drought, but still a good challenge. Overall, a 'birdie'... but would of liked a had a drink after the round. September 28, 2014
First class golf! Today was the first time I played this course - it won't be the last! The course layout and conditions were great, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent (I highly recommend the chicken cashew sandwich that I had). The Sunday Brunch looked good too - maybe we'll get there early enough next time to enjoy that too! If you like to hit practice balls, get there early because the range is a long way from the club house. September 22, 2014
So sad This course was at ontime one of the nicest courses in Orange County. Something has gone horrifically wrong. Not a good deal at any price. I hope they figure it out... September 18, 2014
Talega time... Talega golf course is a great place to play in Southern California. I found a deal on GOLFNOW and took advantage of it because ordinarily this course is out of my weekly golf budget. Prepare for bunkers galore. Practice 60-70-80 yard bunker shots as well as green side bunker shots, this course has a lot of bunkers. The practice range is easier to drive to with your own vehicle then getting there from the course. The staff will shuttle you there but it's easier to drive. I would recommend playing this course at least once in your life. September 9, 2014
Surprised I have played this golf course many many times since it opened. The course is not in very good shape at all. The tee boxes resemble SC muni. The course is extremely wet. Perhaps as a result of grass change. One green is fast and the next green is very slow. Then to top things off, we could not even sit down to have breakfast in the beautiful restaurant at 10:00 at the completion of our round. It was closed. Very disappointing experience for this (at one time) very nice track. September 5, 2014
Expected sooo much mIore This course, although beautiful looking and challenging has a lot of flaws right now. Ill make this quick. 1.Sand was as hard as a bricks...clubs were chipped afterwards. 2.about 1/3 of course is "under repair" including greens. 3. air rated greens that were not previously told about 4. GPS kept resetting and was down from holes 3-6. course in general in terrible condition and for an "elite" course is not up to par August 27, 2014
Warning-Needs lots of work I recently played at Talega Golf club. It was my 50th birthday and we wanted to play someplace extra nice. I have heard great things about Talega for years so we drove the hour to San Clemente. It did live up to its reputation. Large parts of the fairways on 6 or 7 holes had been butchered down to bare dirt. 2 greens had been aerated. 3 or 4 more had been chewed up pretty bad with dead spots and patched in squares. Sand traps were hard as a rock or had standing puddles with green algae growing. Some of the tee boxes were set up hitting from hard dirt. Basically conditions there were at or below municipal levels. I called that morning to book a tee time and looked at the website extensively. There was no mention of bad conditions and the starter said nothing. There was a small sign at the course mentioning a reseeding to rye grass. I played with one of the Legacy members and they mentioned that new lawn mowing equipment had been set incorrectly and that is what butchered the fairway grass. At $85 a player this is a terrible value. At the 2 for 1 I received for my birthday I still feel ripped off. A Golf course has an obligation to tell people when it is reseeding or having problems when they make a reservation. These guys did none of that. August 25, 2014
