Talega Golf Club
Talega golf course is a great place to play in Southern California. I found a deal on GOLFNOW and took advantage of it because ordinarily this course is out of my weekly golf budget. Prepare for bunkers galore. Practice 60-70-80 yard bunker shots as well as green side bunker shots, this course has a lot of bunkers. The practice range is easier to drive to with your own vehicle then getting there from the course. The staff will shuttle you there but it's easier to drive. I would recommend playing this course at least once in your life.

I have played this golf course many many times since it opened. The course is not in very good shape at all. The tee boxes resemble SC muni. The course is extremely wet. Perhaps as a result of grass change. One green is fast and the next green is very slow. Then to top things off, we could not even sit down to have breakfast in the beautiful restaurant at 10:00 at the completion of our round. It was closed. Very disappointing experience for this (at one time) very nice track.

Expected sooo much mIore
This course, although beautiful looking and challenging has a lot of flaws right now.
Ill make this quick.
1.Sand was as hard as a bricks...clubs were chipped afterwards.
2.about 1/3 of course is "under repair" including greens.
3. air rated greens that were not previously told about
4. GPS kept resetting and was down from holes 3-6.
course in general in terrible condition and for an "elite" course is not up to par

Warning-Needs lots of work
I recently played at Talega Golf club. It was my 50th birthday and we wanted to play someplace extra nice. I have heard great things about Talega for years so we drove the hour to San Clemente. It did live up to its reputation. Large parts of the fairways on 6 or 7 holes had been butchered down to bare dirt. 2 greens had been aerated. 3 or 4 more had been chewed up pretty bad with dead spots and patched in squares. Sand traps were hard as a rock or had standing puddles with green algae growing. Some of the tee boxes were set up hitting from hard dirt. Basically conditions there were at or below municipal levels. I called that morning to book a tee time and looked at the website extensively. There was no mention of bad conditions and the starter said nothing. There was a small sign at the course mentioning a reseeding to rye grass. I played with one of the Legacy members and they mentioned that new lawn mowing equipment had been set incorrectly and that is what butchered the fairway grass. At $85 a player this is a terrible value. At the 2 for 1 I received for my birthday I still feel ripped off. A Golf course has an obligation to tell people when it is reseeding or having problems when they make a reservation. These guys did none of that.

nice layout........things to remember.......1) calif is in a drought so pristine green courses are hard to find unless your a country club member .......2) the course is currently under going renovations so take that into consideration........overall it was not as bad as some of the reviews ...This is a nice course I will play again someday....paid 55.00 on a golf now hot deal.....would not pay anymore then that in my opinion in its current condition but overall I like this course.....super friendly staff. !!!!!!

Love the Layout....Saddened by the current condition!
Great layout...... however sadden by the current condition of the course. It does appear the course is working hard to correct fairways and greens. A lot of work going on. It is hard to recommend at this point. I will return.

This was the second time playing Talega, and I was disappointed in the course itself. The staff was great, the price would have been good if the course was in much better condition.
The first green was in poor shape. The course was very wet. In fact, they heavily watered the course just in front of us a number of times. One par 3 green was soaked minutes before we teed off and I had to putt through a stream. Did not go well.
There were grounds crews everywhere. They were not only mowing, but watering and sanding the greens. The greens would have been nice and fast but for the sand, water, and grass trimming left on almost every green. There were two men mowing greens. The one with the obviously newer mower left far less grass on the green. The older mower, well, it left as much as it took.
The fairways had many areas under repair, some not well done. I remember this course being very nice a few years back, but it is now no better than some of the cheaper muni courses.
Now I see why we never encountered anyone on the course, and played so quickly. The locals know to play somewhere else until the course is fixed.
