Talega Golf Club
Course is very challenging, especially if there's wind.
Head Pro, Mark and assistant Van were very personable and welcoming. Teed off on time. Played front nine under 2 hours. Back nine took almost 3 hours due to a PGA tourney. Fairways were very thin in places. Greens were in good shape.

A fun course.
Check out San Clemente's Talega Golf Course. A fun and challenging course for the intermediate golfer. The course uses reclaimed water for irrigation, so it was well watered throughout. The watered turf has a big impact on the golf ball. Our approach shots stopped on a dime, like they should. Most courses I've played this summer were too dry for a back spinning ball to bite, not Talega. That was refreshing. Quiet and peaceful with beautiful vistas all over the course. Don't miss out and make the drive to San Clemente. Talega is worth it!

not player friendly
The location seems to be great but the course is in a state of disrepair. The fairways are either perfect or terrible. The holes play very difficult unless you can hit draw after draw. The bunkers, which there are plenty, were hard packed, crusty, and generally just dirt. The greens take some getting used to as balls don't always break where it looks like they should. Lots and lots of ballmarks not repaired and it appeared their mowers would bounce and not properly cut their paths. Wind is an issue you will confront as well but should be expected in this area. Lots of forced carries that obscure landing areas which leads to ball hunting in the rough which slows play tremendously. One hole, the 15th, is completely a blind tee shot that also slows play and is another ball hunt when you get to the fairway. There is no perspective of where your shot started once you get down to the fairway. Seems it could be more user friendly for the asking price.

Greens in terrible shape. Ball marks everywhere and also it looked like the putting green mower blades weren't sharp cause there were bad cut marks chopped up on the greens. Horrible shape. Worst I think I've ever played on. With that said, I still love the layout and design of this course.

Very interesting layout, but some issues on conditioning
The course has some very interesting holes including some very long par 5s and short par 4s. The par 3s also varied in difficulty and distance. The fairways were in fine shape. The main issues on course condition were the bunkers (of which there are many). Some bunkers had little sand and were hard-packed, others had sufficient sand. Around the greens many areas had been recently sodded, so they played quite differently from the adjacent areas. The greens were challenging for two reasons, one, they had a great deal of slope, secondly many ball marks were not fixed by those ahead of us so we spent some time fixing those in our lines.

This course was very difficult. The place of play was great. It was a little strange to have to be driven in a cart to the driving range. They built it after the course was developed. The conditions were excellent , although some people didn't take the time to repair their ball marks on the greens. I would recommend this course because of the playing conditions and great scenic views.

This a great venue
Overall course not bad. Complaints were first several holes had fresh sod bordering front of greens. Very rough uneven surface. Impossible to bump and run through. While greens were in very good shape they were surprisingly slow. Fairways decent.
