Talega Golf Club
Had difficulty handling more than one 4some at a time...
Pro shop people were fine, but the starter was short with everyone, hard to find, and wouldn't give out cart keys until you were "on deck" to tee off.
Maintainance tractors on almost half of the holes, and kept working when approached... noise, movement, etc. was hard to ignore.

Needs new management
Nice course but don't expect management to come to your aid when you encounter problems on the course. Play is usually slow and they have members that like to bring their music on the course and play it so all could hear. Management knows about it and will not do anything since apparently these people are members and seem to be privileged. Expect to encounter many "golfers" drinking heavily. About a month ago, there was a single that was matched up with a threesome that were so drunk that they tried to run the guy over. Management was told and nothing was done. There are other courses to play. You may want to avoid this one. Tijeras Creek or Monarch Beach monitor their golfers much better and they treat all their guests equally.

Too many stupid, blind shots on back nine
i play Talega once a year, when my home course is closed (Monday's) or when at last minute a friend is in town and i need a tee time--- usually able to get on there, for good price.
There are five holes on back side that are completely blind, no clue on carry, and penalizing when you make a good drive.
there is a 618 yd-par 5, and if you hit it over 280, you're in a ravine!!!!!
there is no water on back side except luke warm water near restroom--- no cold water, and it can get hot back in canyon.

Great course, great value...but maintenance work during play was distracting
I'm a discount golf addict. I am not discerning of the course as long as it has good value. I had a chance to book a tee time at Talega with a "hot deal." Overall it's a fine course that is plenty challenging. There a bunkers everywhere. I will incorporate "laying up" into my game next time I play there. However, the grounds crew was performing massive maintenance all over the course. Palm trees were being trimmed everywhere and big piles of palm tree cuttings were all over the course. Various sand traps had large piles of sand that were clearly meant to be spread out but weren't. I would like to see the greens kept in better shape as most of the greens were peppered with ball marks that weren't properly repaired.
Great value, beautiful course...I'll be back.

Suffering at the end of the summer?
This is a middle of the pack type of course, so the attractiveness depends pretty heavily on the price you pay. At $45, it's pretty solid, but these conditions north of $60 or $65, I think you can do better (Black Gold is a very similar course but much better kept). The members were nice enough, but the greens were beat up pretty bad due to lack of mark repair and it just seemed a little burnt. There's a couple of really nice holes, but nothing I would call "amazing." It's a solid round but if you're traveling from out of town, definitely not worth going out of your way for.

Good course...bad time of year
I like the layout, variety of holes, and the difficulty level that can be adjusted from quite easy to quite difficult. In short, it is that time of year when courses are retooling. The greens were healing from verticut and got progressively worse while many of the bunkers had no sand or were being renovated. When it is all back to form, I will definitely give this course another go and assume (hopefully not to my regret) they take pride is what is essentially a great track.

I love the layout of the course although there is one hole that we all thought was ridiculous . #15 hole is a par 5 that you can't see the fairway or green from the tee box. You have to notice the lone 200 yard marker between the trees in the distance. The greens on our visit was also quite bad but was told by other players that this isn't the norm. Conditions in general was not good considering what we paid. I'm hoping our next visit will be better. Also the pace of play for a Saturday was quite good.

Only one negative, but HUGE!
Singles from the adjacent neighborhoods were jumping onto the course at many and various points. At hole 10, a twosome who had just finished 18, turned back onto 10 between us (a twosome) and the foursome behind us. This twosome began hitting into us. Yet, we never slowed play as we clearly finished in a rapid fashion in 3.5 hours. There were no Marshalls present to control the activity.
