Talega today This was the second time playing Talega, and I was disappointed in the course itself. The staff was great, the price would have been good if the course was in much better condition. The first green was in poor shape. The course was very wet. In fact, they heavily watered the course just in front of us a number of times. One par 3 green was soaked minutes before we teed off and I had to putt through a stream. Did not go well. There were grounds crews everywhere. They were not only mowing, but watering and sanding the greens. The greens would have been nice and fast but for the sand, water, and grass trimming left on almost every green. There were two men mowing greens. The one with the obviously newer mower left far less grass on the green. The older mower, well, it left as much as it took. The fairways had many areas under repair, some not well done. I remember this course being very nice a few years back, but it is now no better than some of the cheaper muni courses. Now I see why we never encountered anyone on the course, and played so quickly. The locals know to play somewhere else until the course is fixed. August 12, 2014
Course is in bad condition They are changing the grass, I normally love this course. August 11, 2014
Value of the course did not equal the rate to play. The bunkers need to be churned....very hard, attracting too much water from the irrigation. The greens are intransition but putt true to form. My complaint are with the fairway and green bunkers. Players have no respect for the bunkers did not rake after hitting; the players do not repair their ball marks forcing the management to hire someone to go around and repair the ball marks. It is a shame that some players do not respect. The layout is super, but a lack of discipline among some players are not allowing others to enjoy the course. August 7, 2014
Seen Better Days While plenty of maintenance is currently being done, playing conditions are suffering. Tee boxes, fairways and greens all need work. Worst would be the sand problem with the bunkers. Many are like hitting off concrete. Basic layout and location are exceptional, current golf course is not. August 6, 2014
Talega was a dissapointment I have played this course many times in the past. They are in the process of changing out the fairway grass in the middle of the summer? 1/2 of the course and fairways are under construction with the grass change over. I would have been fine with that, if only someone has said something ahead of time. The staff were very friendly, as has been my experience in the past. I look forward to playing this course once the new fairways are in. August 4, 2014
Great layout, poor maintenance. The course has a great layout and I enjoyed the views. The condition of the course was not good at all. Dead grass and spotty fairways everywhere. Too bad. August 3, 2014
Bad greens Greens were in bad shape. Tee boxes had almost no grass on them on some of them. They are switching types of grass on the course which could be the cause of some of the problems. But not really worth it until they finish that. August 3, 2014
Solid Course Since moving from New York about a year ago, this was my 5th or 6th time @ Talega. It is what I call an "honest" course---reasonably challenging, not gimmicky and, like most California courses, pretty interesting greens that require thoughtful putting. There are plenty of opportunities to lose balls (yes, my bag is a little lighter today). All in all, worth the $ especially if you can play/pay @ twilight during the week. You can play for around $40 and the pace is quick. July 30, 2014
